Mr Gold waited for the girl to return to her ward for almost half an hour before sensing something was wrong and heading after her. The girl was still under the effects of crossing the town line, so he doubted she would have escaped.
He retraced her footsteps through the hospital, across to the corridor leading down to the room furthest away from anywhere else where he knew Hook to be held. Gold was reluctant to call Hook her father - the girl was barely old enough to have been conceived by the pirate and his one-time wife. He thought it much more likely that Kiliah was in fact the second-born that he had sold to a healer in return for Bae's cure.
As he rounded the corner, Gold was immediately drawn to the figures lying together on the floor. Like a scene from Romeo and Juliet, Hook and Kiliah were lying within inches of one another, seemingly dead. As he looked, he noticed the vial he had given the girl earlier in Hook's hand, now empty.
The stupid, stupid girl, he thought to himself, as he rushed forward. While Gold had no particular affection for the girl, his intention was not for her to be cursed to eternal sleep. There was, after all, every chance that she was his daughter and he didn't think he could sink so low so as to condemn his only daughter.
If the pirate had managed to break the memory charm, Gold was aware this would mean that the girl would wake up and instantly kiss her father and break the sleeping curse. But he would still be cursed to revisit that netherworld whenever he slept, and that was something.
No, this would remedy the wrong he did to Milah all those years ago by selling away their future. This would make things square. And maybe, when Belle woke up, she would learn to love him again.
Hesitantly dropping to his knees beside Kiliah, he unstoppered a vial of pixie dust from the pocket of his jacket and poured the contents over her, before retreating to stand behind the bend in the corridor.
