Chapter 21(Zayn's pov): This is the third day withought Kayla. Ive looked all over the city and a lot of the rest of Florida for her. I checked in with all of her friends. Ive thought of all of our conversations to find a hint to where she might be. I message her every once and a while. She won't answer. I tell her Im sorry and that I love her but she still won't answer. I call her little sister in New York. She isn't there.
I messed up big time.
I lost her.
I lost the best thing thats ever happened to me.
I never stop thinking about her.
I miss her so much.
I need to find her.
I love her. Not because she's beautiful or hot.
Its because she understands me.
She's sweet.
Gentle.
She gets me.
She makes me so happy.
Our relationship is the kind where you could act like an idiot, talk about the most random stuff, share music, and always love each other no matter what.
We have practically everything in common.
She feels the same way I feel.
And I swear, her laugh could make the world a better place.
Seeing her smile makes my day.
I love being the one to make her smile.
I need to see her.
I need to see that smile again.
I need to hear her laugh.
I need to hold her.
I go into our closet and take out her favorite sweatshirt. Its grey with a bubblegum pink octopus on it. I crawl into bed and hold it close, it still smells like her. Roses. I check my phone to see if she's messaged back. Nothing. Why doesn't she message back?
Doesn't she know I love her?
Did she forget about me already?
Is she coming back?
Will I ever see her again?
I get a message on my phone. I scramble to pick it up and I check who its from. Cristina. Kayla's best friend. "Hey, are you ok?" What? I am not ok. Kayla isn't with me. I can't find her. She won't let me find her.
But I will.
I love her.
(Niall's pov): I can't believe Louis. He's flirting with Bella and he knew I like her. A lot. Seeing him making her laugh is breaking me. They follow me into the apartment laughing. "Louis can I talk to you?" I say while pulling him into an empty bedroom. "What the hell are you doing?" He looks emotionless. "Im sorry mate, I just...." He looks out the window.
"You just what?" I say as calmly as possible. I cross my arms, looking at him. How could he do this to me? "You know I love her." I continue quietly. "I know mate, Im sorry, I never should've flirted with her like that. Trust me, I don't like her." He puts his hand on my shoulder and looks me in the eyes. "Forgive me?" He almost pleads. I have to. He's my best mate. "Of course." I say, giving him a half hug.
There's a knock on the door. Bella pokes her beautiful head around the door, her hair cascading in curls. I immediately smile at the sight of her face. "Hey, sorry for interrupting," she starts. "No we were just finishing up." Louis says, interrupting her. "Anyways," she says, coming in the room. "I still have a lot to do around the city, anyone want to come with me?" She asks, looking at both of us. "I'll go." I say, smiling. Bella smiles back. "Come on." She reaches for my hand and tugs on my arms slightly. "We'll be back later." I say to Louis as we go out the door.
"Aren't you impatient." I say to her as we walk down the hall towards the elevator. "I just remembered I need to find a purse to go with my dress Im wearing tomorrow." We enter the elevator and I press the lobby button. "Why do you need so many purses?" I ask her. She rolls her eyes and sighs while smiling slightly. "Why do need to breath so much?" She counters jokingly.
The elevator stops and the doors open to admit a teenage couple. They look to be around 15 or 16. They whisper loudly to each other and giggle every so often. The boy kisses her on the cheek which makes her laugh with joy.
I have to admit: Im jealous. That boy can kiss her anytime anywhere because he likes her. He knows she's his. I can't say that about Bella. The elevator stops and they leave first.
I realize we're still holding hands. Her hand is delicate, soft and cold yet it makes me feel warm inside. "Do you know where her office is?" I ask Bella. "Yeah its across the street, in front of the fountain." She replies. Close. I can't help but be a little disappointed. I wanted to spend as much time as possible with Bella. I wished the office was on the other side of the city so that we could laugh and talk all the way there.
We went around our apartment building to find the fountain. Up close, you can see blue lines in the marble all over the fountains. In the water, there are hundreds of coins from what look like a dozen different countries. Theres a couple taking a picture in the middle of the heart the dolphins are making. I see couples throwing in coins, kissing or snogging. Me and Bella are quiet as we walk past the scene. I wanted more than anything for us to be one of those couples throwing coins into the fountain or taking pictures, holding each other.
We arrive at the real estate agent's office. Its modern, made of just glass and metal. We leave the money with the the agents secretary who gives Bella the keys to her new flat. We walk across the plaza talking, which makes this trip past the fountain less awkward.
We're not holding hands anymore, we let go when we got to the lobby of the building. I think about what people have said before about holding hands when you're meant to be. They're supposed to fit together perfectly, like puzzle pieces. Ours don't. Maybe we aren't meant to be. Or maybe its just a myth.
Bella interrupts my thoughts, "Hey do you remember where the Starbucks is?" She asks me. "Yeah, I think its like two blocks from here." I have an idea so that I can hold her hand again. "Come on," I walk faster, taking her hand and pulling her slightly. Once we're holding hands again, I slow down. We walk side by side. Hand in hand.
I think, its not the people who's hands fit perfectly together that are meant to be.
Its the people that hold hands even if they don't fit.
