CARL'S POV.
"They're here." Eugene whispers loud enough for us all to hear.
"Quick! Get Madison into the back room. Stay quiet, don't let them know you're here." Dad urges as the screams from outside continue.
I stand up from behind the alter table and with Madison's hand still in mine I help her into a sitting position. She winces and tries to cry out in pain but Abbie quickly clamps her hand over her sisters mouth.
"Go! Now! Into the back room. We're right behind you." I order Abbie.
"But-"
"Now!"she hops off the table and scrambled away. I hook my arms under Madison's back and knees and lift her from the table, carrying her as quickly as I can to the back room.
I lay her on Gabriel's couch and turn to close the door.
"Wait! Where's Nick?"
I look around the room but only see a few of the others here. Everyone else went to investigate outside.
Why is this guy always getting in the way of shit?
"Please, you have to get them. Please!" She pleads.
"Okay, okay." I sigh.
"Where's my bow?" Mads panics.
I don't stick around to listen.
"You know how to use this." I flash my gun at Abbie. She shakes her head no with wide eyes. I hand it to her anyways. Just in case.
I run outside, closing the door behind me and into the main part of the church. Nick stands in the middle of the aisle, staring outside the front door.
"What the hell are you do-" I cut myself off when I see the growing herd outside.
Oh shit!
"Madison needs you. She's in the back room with Abbie." I shove him in the direction of the door.
"Aren't you coming?" He calls.
I shake my head as I hurry to Abrahams bags. He has a huge rifle bag, unfortunately when I unzip it all I find is a small revolver. It's not much but it's better than nothing. I check that is loaded as the pat my knife that's strapped to my leg.
"I'm going to help." I explain.
He doesn't stop to offer help too. By the sounds of things that's not in his nature. He turns on his heel and leaves.
I don't give him a second glance, instead, I make my way out the front door and down the porch steps.
There's walkers everywhere, emerging from the tree line. I hear not just one scream anymore but many, attracting more walkers to join. The group battle between the herd and whoever is firing at us from behind the trees.
Cowards!
I lift my gun and click the bullet into its chamber but my eyes search for the familiar scream. My ears find it first as it rings out loud na piercing. My eyes follow the sound to find Sasha and Glenn leaning over something on the ground.
My legs move fast to uncover the source of the sound. I squish between Glenn and Sasha and find Bob on the ground, miraculous still alive but to my utter horror, not all in one piece. Where there had been smooth skin below his left knee was now torn muscle and blood, as raw as any carcass at the butchers, all wrapped in a loose, lame attempt at bandaging.
I feel my own mouth hanging open, similar to Glenn and Sasha's reactions. It takes me a few seconds to connect my brain with my body.
"Come on, we need to move him inside." I shouted over the noise to Sasha and Glenn. They nod eagerly and each of us grab him.
I grab him from under the arms and Sasha grabs his waist. Bob howls in pain as we try to move him. Glenn attempts to hold his legs level with each other to prevent any pain but Bob screams anyways, only stopping when he passes out.
We lay him on the ground, half way down the aisle. Even with half his leg gone, he's still heavy and we don't make it to the alter. The minute he's on the ground Sasha throws her hands around him, kissing his cheeks, his lips, his forehead.
"Please wake up. Please wake up!" She sobs.
