Louis: “Dad,” your daughter, a smart young thing at 12, speaks to Louis, “do you ever get scared that you’re not going to leave your mark on the world? I mean.. what am I saying, of course you don’t! You already have left your mark. What I mean is, will I be able to do that too?” But Louis shakes his head, “honey, nothing in life that’s worth it, really worth it, is easy. And making a difference, showing the world what you’re capable of, that’s the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. And if it was hard for me, it’ll be a piece of cake for you.” She smiles at him, “thanks dad.” “Of course honey. Say, how old are you anyway? Are you sure you’re only twelve?”

Harry: “Daddy?” you could hear your daughter on the phone, speaking with Harry, “yes, darling?” She was 21, in college, and constantly hitting the books. She wanted to be a lawyer, no two ways about it. She’d wanted it since she was little. “Daddy, I just failed an exam, and I don’t know what to do. I feel like I’m being a total brat, but, can you just tell me it gets easier?” Harry just smiles, “of course it gets easier darling, every day it gets easier. And even if you don’t feel it now, that failed test is going to be forgotten in a week. Even more so when you’re the top lawyer at a firm.” She sniffles on the phone, “thanks, daddy, I love you.” “Love you too, darling.”

Niall: “So dad, hypothetical question here. Would you rather burp all the time, or fart all the time?” Your daughter was nine, and always finding the weirdest questions to ask you or Niall. “Darling, if you weren’t my daughter, I would wonder how we’re related, I mean obviously I’d rather burp all the time seeing as the farting already happens. You should know that!” Your daughter laughs, “that’s true dad, very true.” She’d never tell Niall, but even though she was only nine, she appreciated that he answered her silly questions honestly, because it made her feel grown up. “Before you go, give dad a kiss then,” Niall requested, and she rolled her eyes. Maybe not too grown up.

Liam: “Dad?” your six year old girl grins up at Liam, wearing her superman outfit. She’d insisted, when she saw it in the store, explained that she really needed it, because she was going to save the world. “How do I look, daddy?” Liam can’t contain his laughter, not because it’s funny that his daughter wants to be a superhero, but because he can’t believe how lucky he got to have such a wonderful child, ambitious and driven, and only six. “I can’t say I’ve ever seen such a powerful looking superhero, darling! And I’ve seen many.” Your daughter, delighted that Liam approves, can’t help but beam at the compliment, “thanks, daddy! I’m off to save gran’s cat from the tree!”

Zayn: “Daddy?” your little girl, who’s apparently not so little anymore, whispers to Zayn. And Zayn whispers back, “yeah, darling?” because somehow he knows, just understands that something’s not right. And she hangs her head, “when do boys stop being so horrible? Besides you I mean?” Zayn chuckles, putting his arm around her, “one day, honey, you’ll realize, boys will always be horrible. But there will be a boy one day who thinks the stars only shine for you, the sun only rises when you smile. And that boy, even if he makes you cry, he’ll be the one.” She grumbles, not getting it quite yet, “whatever you say, daddy.”
