Keira
I opened the bathroom door to notice a light on downstairs. I couldn't help the temptation, I tend to be very nosy sometimes. I walked downstairs carefully and quietly, I didn't want to disturb anyone as they all slept.
The light was on in the kitchen and I noticed Melissa sitting at the kitchen table. She turned her head to notice me standing there. I stood still I didn't know what to do.
"Are you just going to stand there, come sit down." She said before turning her head back. I sat down in the chair right next to her and there were mulitple photo albums.
"Your family really likes to take photos." I commented. Melissa chuckled, "I love taking photos. My dream job is to be a photographer." "I'm sorry to ask, but why didn't you go and fulfill your dreams?" I asked.
"I was just a teen when I had Trey. I didn't even graduate high school on time, and I just never had enough money to go to college." Melissa revealed. It makes sense. Melissa doesn't even look a day over forty, I mean she could be Trey's older sister for all I know.
"How older were you when you got pregnant with Trey?" "About 13, I was 14 when he was born." I was stunned. If I had water in my mouth I would spit it out everywhere. "14?" "Yeah. I was walking pregnant my freshman year of high school."
I could see it all in Melissa's eyes. Talking about something like this isn't easy for everyone especially when it's to someone you hardly know. "So was Trey's father your boyfriend at the time?" "No. Trey's father and I were never in a commited relationship. If we were it would be illegal."
Meaning that Trey's father was legal when he was born.
"How old was he when you guys conceived Trey?" "He was 21." Melissa observed that I was getting uncomfortable. I mean yeah when I was in Chicago, I heard all about young girls getting pregnant, but the guy they were with he was their age and wasn't like 7 years older than them.
"Well when I was growing up, my parents were absent and I didn't take it well. I was desperate for attention and Trey's father was the son of a politician and my grandmother was the head maid at their mansion, and I would go there all the time with her. Trey's father, Alfred, only wanted me for his sexual pleasures, I wasn't interested but he didn't care. So for the next year I was sexually assaulted by him. I was scared to tell anyone, he threatened to kill my grandma if I told anyone, so I had to hide it and make sure to do what he wanted. So when Trey was born I had to name him after Alfred and not put Alfred's name on the birth certificate cause his parents didn't know at the time that their Trey was their grandson." Melissa explained to me. I could tears in Melissa's eyes. This isn't something she usually tells people.
"So you why do you call him Trey?" I asked. "Well Trey means three and his father and grandfather are named Alfred. Trey's father was known as "AJ" most of his life, so I decided to call my son Trey." Melissa and I both heard Trey's door open. He must be looking for me.
Melissa pointed to the closet and told me to go there. "Mom, have you seen Keira?" I heard Trey ask. "She's fine. She's using the bathroom with me. We've been up talking." Melissa covered for me.
"What can you two be talking about at midnight?" "Trey, go to bed. It's nothing for you, it's girl talk." I opened the closet door once I heard Trey's door close.
I returned to the kitchen table and Melissa pulled out two bowls, spoons and an ice cream container. "Is chocolate ice cream okay?" Melissa asked. "Yes please." As Melissa scooped up the ice cream I began to ask more questions."So when did the Carruths learn Trey was their grandson?"
