LESLIE:
"Ken, Ken." I called out my husband's name a couple times. I was looking for him, I saw his Mercedes parked outside, along with Trey's. He must be here to see little Briseis. She was the prettiest baby I've ever seen. I walked up to Keira's room and who was outside of the room listening in the conversation between Keira and Trey? Kenneth Lansing.
I pulled Ken, by the ear, towards me and we walked downstairs. Why won't he let his daughter be happy? "What the hell, Leslie!" Ken bellowed as he held his red, irrated ear. "What do you think you're doing?" I asked. "I don't want him in my house." "Ken, your daughter and granddaughter is here, he's going to be around for the next 18 years whether you like it or not." Ken rollled his eyes. "Why are you so mean to him anyway?" I questioned. I never understood it. Every father has to come to terms that their little girl will become a woman and fall in love. My father was never hard on Ken when we were dating. "I just don't like him." Ken growled as he poured himself a drink of the wine from the cooler nearby. "Ken." I whined. He doesn't just don't like him.
"Leslie, knock it off. You already know why." "No I don't!" "Yes you do, remember the file?" The file? The file! Stupid, stupid Leslie.
ONE YEAR AGO
Ken sat at his desk as he watched his colleague finishing his report for tonight's edition of Sportscenter. Ken was set to report about Alabama demolishing another team and their run to the BCS Championships, but this colleague was discussing the best high school athlete. All the analysts agreed it was Trey Carruth. He was best basketball player since Michael Jordan, no doubt, but he was the best athlete since Bo Jackson.
"So that Carruth, huh?" Ken asked as he walked off the platform. "He's amazing but his family past isn't so great. I bet it will turn a lot of people off." The colleague replied. "His family?" Ken was little off. He didn't understand what could his family do. His mother seems like just like any mother, has a couple siblings. "He's a Carruth, the political family in New York. The family that stole all that money in New York government. And worse, he's the bastard child of Alfred Carruth, the one who was acquitted of raping that girl."
"Carruth..." Ken mumbled. He remembered them. He knew of Alfred Carruth and he hated him too. "Better keep that beautiful daughter of yours away from Alfred Carruth or he'll fuck up her life." The colleague stated before he walked away. "Better keep her away." Those words will always be in his mind forever. Keira was not going to be around any Carruth, not on his watch.
The file. Now Ken is over the edge since Alfred is Briseis's grandfather. "What? You're going to break them up?" I asked in a joking matter. That face of Ken proved that is his intention. "Stay out of their business." I warned. "You're only going to lose your daughter." "I'm protecting my daughter and my granddaughter. How am I to know if Trey's a faud just like Alfred?" He made a good statement. I shrugged my shoulders. Maybe Kenneth does know what to do.
OMNISCIENT:
Alfred had a grin on his face as he waited on the bank teller. "May I help you sir?" The bank teller asked. "Yes, I'm Alfred Carruth, Trey Carruth's father and I have permission to take control of the bank account of his." Alfred showed the phony signature of Trey's. The bank teller lifted a brow as she studied the page. "Okay, so what do you want to do with the money?" She asked. "I would like to take out 386,000 please." Alfred demanded with a devilish grin. Oh look what Trey is getting himself into.
