"I don't want to do this." Nova mumbled as she hugged my arm.
"It'll be fine, I promise." I said, kissing the side of her head. "I'm just, nervous, I guess." She sighed, running a hand through her hair and letting go of my arm.
"I don't want to see him again, or meet his stupid family." She huffed, crossing her arms.
"Come on Nova, don't be like that." I said, wrapping my arms around her. She let her head fall on my shoulder.
"Thank you." She whispered, "for being here with me."
I smiled, "I'll always be here."
She looked up, her eyes staring into mine. "You're the best." She said, her lips coming in contact with mine.
I held her, the sweetness of her lips was enough to keep me like this forever. She was the definition of perfect, I remember being so desperate to make Bella my imprint, when the entire time Nova was out there in the world.
All my life she has been out there, waiting for me to find her. Or her to find me, just the thought of her made life worth living.
"How horrifying."
She pulled away, Alex stood a few feet away with her mom. I smiled, Nova rolled her eyes. "Go away dog." She muttered.
I laughed, I could hear a car coming down the road. Voices were also filling my ears, but no Nova's or Alex's.
"Do we have to do this?" A male voice asked.
"Ryan please, this means a lot to your father." An older woman spoke, "I still can't believe you didn't tell us about your other family." A girls voice said.
The voices were getting closer, I spotted a car coming down the road through the window.
"Oh god it's them." Nova whispered, she leaned in closer to me. I put my arm over her shoulders.
"Now, let's remember to be kind please." Nova's mom spoke. "We'll try." Alex responded. I could tell he wasn't too excited either.
The car finally came to a stop and all four doors opened.
A man came out, he didn't look like Nova, but definitely like Alex. A woman walked to his side, you could tell she was pregnant through her bulging stomach. Another girl, same age as Nova stepped towards the house.
A boy around 12 stood beside her.
"That's them." Alex said, I looked down at Nova. Her face was straight, no expression. I grabbed her hand, giving it a squeeze, she looked up, smiling.
Her mom went to the door, opening it.
Alex followed behind her, "let's get this over with." He muttered as he went out.
"Come on." I said, pulling her forward, "I don't want to." She whispered, pulling me back so I stood in front of her.
"It's gonna be okay, I'll be here with you." I said, cupping her cheek in my hand.
"I love you." I said, she smiled. I bent down and kissed her.
She leaned her forehead against mine, "I hate this." She whispered. "I know." I responded, pulling her into a tight hug.
"Now come on." I whispered, pulling away and taking her hand in mine. She sighed, letting me drag her towards the door and eventually we were facing the family.
"Nova." The man known as her father spoke up, she looked up at me. I smiled, encouraging her to do the same. She turned to look at the man, he had the same hair as her, and that was about it. He took a step forward.
"Hi." Nova managed to say, I felt her tense up as he got closer.
"You're so beautiful, you're so big now." He said, as if he was shocked that Nova grew up.
"Well, it's been nine years since you ran off, so obviously she'd grow up at some point." Alex snapped at him.
You could tell Alex held more of the anger between him and Nova.
The man didn't say anything, he just stared at Nova.
There was an awkward silence.
"Oh, this is Barbara." He turned to the woman beside him, "and Brooke." He wrapped an arm around the girls shoulder, "and Ryan." He pointed to the boy.
They both had brown hair like Nova.
"Nice to meet you." Nova's mother said, a smile on her face. The woman, Barbara, smiled, "nice to meet you too."
I looked over at Alex, a look of disgust on his face. I was a little shocked as well, how could these two women get along? One of them had an affair with the other's husband.
I looked over at Brooke and Ryan, they both stood awkwardly. I noticed Brooke looking at me, I smiled, trying to be polite. She smiled back, I looked down at Nova, she stared blankly at Brooke.
"I have to go somewhere." Nova suddenly spoke up, I looked at her. "What are you doing?" I whispered.
"I can't do this, not after nine years." She said, letting go of my hand. She took off, running towards the forest.
"NOVA!" Her mom called after her.
"Let her go mom, I wouldn't want to be here either." Alex snapped, he took off into the house. "This was stupid." Ryan mumbled.
"Ryan." Nova's dad hissed.
"Oh Jacob, please go after her." Nova's mom begged, I nodded.
I took off running in the direction Nova had left. I could hear her footsteps hitting the ground. Within seconds I was right behind her, "Nova." I called out, grabbing her arm, forcing her to stop running. She slammed into my chest, a sob escaping her lips.
I held onto her, feeling her tears soak through my shirt.
A part of me wanted to kill her father for making her cry, she didn't deserve this. To cry like this, it killed me.
"I hate him." She sobbed.
I held on tighter, she wrapped her arms around me.
"I hate him."
