Emily's POV
I wearily stretched and yawned, glancing at the clock. 10 A.M. At least I got to sleep in. I groaned and rolled over, covering myself with my blanket as the home phone rang in my ear. "Viv!" I yelled sleepily. "Answer the phone!"
"Hello?" I heard my sister's muffled voice talk into the phone. "I'll get her. EMILY!" She yelled into my room.
Startled, I leapt up, hair in my eyes, blankets tangled around me as I tried to return my breathing to its normal pace. "What? What is it? Who is it?"
Vivian giggled, handing me the phone and walking away. "It's a bo-oy!" she sing-songed.
My mind raced with the different boys who would call me. Kevin? No, he just texted my cell. Same goes for Niall, Harry, Louis, Liam, and Zayn. I cautiously answered. "Hello?"
I heard a soft chuckle from the other end of the line. "Emily?"
I recognized the voice instantly. I never thought I'd hear it again. My breath hitched in my throat. "Peter?"
He laughed, a laugh that once made me feel giddy inside, now making me fill with dread. "Yeah it's me. Wow, it's been a long time since we talked, hasn't it?"
"Yeah." I said quietly. I couldn't believe it. Peter was calling me? After so long?
"Hey, I was wondering if I could take you out somewhere special tonight, on a date, you know, to catch up." He suggested casually.
My fist clenched. I was so focused on the conversation that I barely noticed the boys walk in and sit quietly on my carpet so as not to disturb me. "Seven years." I whispered, almost to myself.
"What was that?" He questioned.
That's when I got angry. I stood up and got ready to have the conversation I'd waited years for. I raised my voice. "It's been seven years since we talked. You know why?" I waited to hear his response, but his silence was confirmation enough. "We were best friends." I said quietly. Then my rage took over again. "You know what happened? Someone decided he was too good for me, that I just didn't exist." He tried talking now, but I cut him off. "Someone completely ignored me for seven years. Then what did he do? He called me, all jokes and smiles, asking me out on a date." I saw Niall's eyes widen and his face pale. "Well you know what? Tell him never. Never in a million years would I consider going out with someone who I thought was my best friend for six years, SIX YEARS, and then forgot I existed." I was panting now, my energy drained from expressing all the feelings I'd kept inside for so long. I sat down on my bed again.
"I'm sorry." He said slowly, all traces of mirth gone from his voice. "I didn't mean to."
"Then why did you do it?" I asked quietly. My mind flashed over our fond memories, memories I'd tried so hard to forget. I choked down a sob. It hurt so much.
"I-I don't know." He finished.
"Goodbye Peter." I gently set the phone down and hung up. I had about a second and a half before I was engulfed in a giant group hug. All I could see was a tuft of blonde hair in front of my face, and I couldn't move. "Guys, what's this for?" I tried to laugh it off.
"You're in pain, we want to help." Louis said seriously.
After a few more moments of struggling, I let myself relax into the hug. It was nice, comforting. Until someone let one rip. "Niall!" Liam groaned as they all pulled back. Niall blushed a deep red for having farted in my room, and in our group hug. I merely scrunched up my nose before standing, patting his head and walking over to my door way.
