Annabeth

Chiron had agreed to let Annabeth get on a plane, that morning.

First, he told her to get a good night's sleep. Percy couldn't take a plane and they wouldn't be able to guess the route he would take by road. But if he booked it here she should've arrived at the same time as him. A couple of roman demigods had checked the roads by the state lines, none of them reported him coming in.

But Annabeth knew if someone had murdered Percy's family and then challenged him, he wouldn't hesitate to throw everything out the window. But he had to slip up at some point. There was no way he could be thinkingclearly right now.

How could they find him in a big city like Los Angelas?

Jason sighed. He had come with her on the plane. Son of Jupiter and all that. "What are we going to do? Roam the streets? We must've left something behind at the apartment. A note. Something that gave him more information."

"I know," Annabeth said. "I just hope he's not about to do something stupid."

"You don't honestly think we're just going to run into him. Do you?"

She shook her head. "He's got to be hiding in one of these buildings. Whoever did this is probably threatening him too. We should see if any of these structures are... Guarded."

Jason suggested he take some of the Romans to the edge of town. Annabeth, Frank, Hazel, and a few others would search downtown.

They turned a couple ofstreets, they split into two groups again. Frank and Hazel continued to search further downtown. Frank turned into a bird and flew above them.

He landed half an hour later, pointing to a spot in the city not too far from them. "There's a clip of buildings down that way. Six medium skyscrapers surrounding that tall thick one."

Annabeth saw it. It was easily the most noticeable building in the city.

"There's one other thing," Frank said. "There are lots of people crossing through those streets, they're not closed off but... There's an unusual amount of people just standing there. Each one is wearing black jeans and shirts."

Hazel put her hand on his arm. "You think whoever's doing this has an organization with seven buildings? Just here in California?"

Frank nodded. "We should check with city hall. See what these buildings are for."

"Frank's right. We should see if they're even registered or if it's the mist."

Frank sent some Romans to check out the area. To innocently pass through and get a body count. Some are going to a condemned building to watch for anything weird from a distance.

With some persuasion, they got a map.

The big building was what made her wonder. It was like a beacon, the top of it admits a type of signal, controlling twelve satellites in orbit. Full access to images and data online. That's what the forms said.

"That's sort of..." Hazel started.

"What?" Annabeth asked.

"I can feel something dark inside of there. Lots of mist and lots of... I don't know. I'm reminded of Thanatos but I don't know..."

"Okay," Annabeth said. "Let's go."

"Shouldn't we come up with a plan?" Frank asked.

"Let's talk to some of the Romans surveying the area first. See if they have anything."
