Hazel

Hazel was riding Arion so fast she thought her legs were going to fall off. She ran into camp, grabbed a demigod, then ran right out. She ran into Iretomb, grabbed another person, then ran out.

She'd lost track of how many times she'd gone back and forth. But she remembered one thing from school in California, if you can see the tsunami, you can't outrun it.

"Watch me." Hazel bragged as Arion cleared the hills of Camp Half-blood in a single stride. A young child from Iretomb clung to her shirt. She dropped him carefully into his mother's arms and sped to the tallest hill in the valley to see how much timr was left.

The wall of water looked so close. It appeared seconds from breaking against the shoreline, yet it was still moving forward.

Hazel thought they were all screwed for sure. But then the Nyxis took off. That meant everyone was out.

They wouldn't leave anyone. Right?

For a moment Hazel thought they would. If someone was too far away to reach, they might leave it up to Hazel and Arion.

Hazel scoured the whole city. She couldn't find anyone. The Nyxis was riding diagonally away from the wave. It passed over her head causing her ears to pop.

Hazel kicked Arion's side, warning him that she was getting off.

Arion whined loudly in protest.

"Come on. Arion, there's no way I can check these buildings with you. I have to be sure."

He screamed again.

Look over there. He seemed to say.

To Hazels eyes, the wave didn't seem any closer.

"What?"

Arion took it upon himself to show her. He ran at a mild speed in order for her to grab on without falling off, then he bolted.

She was taken to a different hill than before. One a lot closer to the wave but still high up. From this new angle Hazel could see the amount of water between the ground and the wave, but the massive wall of water couldnt give her any distinct measurements.

A small black dot flew over the top of the water.

"That has to be the ship." Hazel urged her horse to move somewhere she could see it better.

He reluctantly galloped closer to the shore. The wave was half a mile out, maybe.

From here Hazel could see the ship. The back seemed to be open.

Someone was scooting towards the edge of the lowered platform. Whoever it was, turned to face the wave.

Hazel's heart skipped. Just yesterday she'd found out that Percy was alive. But, he was going to meet them to negotiate for Jason in three days. He couldnt be behind this.

"Stay calm, and stay still." She warned Arion.

Hazel spread her hands. A circle of mist appeared in front of them. Hazel bent it to her will with force, demanding to see closer.

Colors appeared and then she saw the open ship vividly. The noice of the tsunami increased greatly.

She saw Percy. He was kneeling on the edge of the platform in a Rider's uniform.

"No," Hazel whispered.

His hand was outstretched behind him, feeding the tsunami with his powers.
