Of course Dan was sorry for what he did to Phil. Yes, he would deny it if you asked him, but he was most definitely sorry.

He didn't know how much of an effect his actions had on Phil. He didn't know how many times Phil had stayed up, crying. He didn't know how many times Phil felt like he could just disappear. He didn't know.

Another thing Dan didn't know, was how to control his temper. He'd never thought of it as a problem, but he was very aware of what he was doing when he threw a "tantrum". Sometimes, he'd get in the mood where if he was completely aware of how much he was hurting Phil, he just wouldn't care. He'd shrug it off and never think of it again. Other times, after arguing with Phil, and watching Phil leave with tear stained cheeks, he'd feel crushed. Liked he'd ripped apart a beautiful, delicate flower.

Phil had tried many times to push Dan's words away. Each morning he'd wait for Dan so they could walk into the school together. Sometimes he'd show up, other times Phil could only assume he was with Evan. But after their conversation in the bathroom, Phil had decided to keep his distance. He'd be there ONLY if Dan absolutely needed him, because he still had hope that their history of being best friends, and almost more, would somehow keep them together.
