think of me like a tree

everyone looks up at the tree and says,
"oh, aren't you mighty! oh, aren't you tall!
oh, how your roots grow deep,
oh, how you'll never fall!"
everyone sees how lightening, wind, and rain attack the tree,
and  still it stands,
but they don't see
the way the leaves turn to brown from green
and fall like angels to the dirt
they only see the branches stretched across the sky
they only know how in the storm, the branches keep them dry
they don't not see that every tree
has a place in time
and not a single tree was meant to be
an everlasting sign
every tree falls and crashes to the earth
and if not by natural cause, then axed down
because of how much the wood is worth
people muse to themselves how if a tree falls
in the forest and no ones there to hear it
does it make a sound at all?
the only problem with that logic is no matter where you go,
there's always someone to hear the sound
of roots letting go
