the sylvia plath effect

they say that writers,

especially poets,

are more prone to mental illness--

not just any mental illness:

but mental illnesses that contribute to suicide or suicidal thoughts.

i don't find this claim to be untrue,

and that bothers me.

it bothers me that of how many of the writers and poets i know of who finally 'did it',

most were married with children.

i had always assumed being married with children meant i had more than enough reasons to live,

and that i would be safe from myself, my thoughts, my moods.

perhaps i was wrong

very wrong!

and that kills me more than my own hands ever could
