Katniss's POV
Peeta and I stood there, arms wrapped around each other, breaths overlapping for many minutes, and I could only thank him. His fingers ran gently through my hair, whispering that everything is going to be okay no matter what. The strong hold of his arms across my waist coaxed me into his chest, the only home I had known for the past few weeks and honestly, it was beginning to grow on me. I knew there was love behind our relationship, I just had to trust myself to let my guard down, I was safe when he was here.
A loud clash of footsteps dragged down the hall, and I didn't want to pull away, but I did. Peeta's arms dropped and for only a second I starred right into his deep blue eyes. His eyes gave me one last reassuring glance before we were interrupted by our new entourage.
"What the hell are you guys doing down here?" Haymitch roared, a worried looking Prep Team halted behind him and Effie ran towards us.
"I just needed a break," Peeta spoke before I could stop him and worriedly I looked over to the side of his face, "The room there is just so stuffy and I just can't wait to get home, Haymitch," he looked down to the ground, then back over to me and then Haymitch.
I gave Peeta credit, he was a great liar, but he didn't have to do that, but he did anyway and I felt my trust move up a small bit.
"You're in luck," Haymitch said, you could tell he eased back a bit, understanding what Peeta had said," We're getting on the train now."
"Yes!" Effie exhaled, "If we leave right now, we are exactly thirty nine seconds ahead of schedule!" The smile on her face was stretched from ear to ear and you could almost see her jumping up and down in the dim light; but Effie didn't 'jump' she of course 'hopped highly' because that was ladylike.
Some Capitol security guards walked around the group of ours, showing us the way. They quickly unlocked the door I had tried so hard to beat down by easily scanning a small card underneath the knob which opened the door, revealing the gorgeous morning air. In the distance, the beautiful array of colors casted over the sun rise and I took in a hard breath, remembering my times in District Twelve where those sunrises were always the foundation to my day; it had been a good two months it seemed, since I last saw something as perfect as this.
My trance wasn't broken when Peeta slowly stepped up from behind me, his hand finding mine as our fingers slowly entwined as if it were a gift from nature. "It's gorgeous, it's home, Peeta." I spoke, my lips moving while my body stayed frozen.
"It is. Wherever you are, that's my home," he whispered, and behind me, everyone went silent for a few moments before we were running too behind. Effie rushed behind Peeta and I, ushering us into the open air, well as open as it got in the Capitol. Peeta's hand stayed right in mine as we stepped out onto the tiny rocks of gravel that lead outside to the train.
Luckily, this must've been a secret location because there weren't any cameras or even people other than the ones who were finalizing the checkup of the train. The train was exactly like the one we rode on before, and we stepped onto the last cart, which was where my room apparently was. Peeta was close at my side as I stepped into the room, a gorgeous selection of velvet sheets were strung across the bed, and many accommodations were scattered throughout the cabin. There was a huge TV screen, menu for food and drinks, and even a huge window which was a one-way window. When we came in, I had no idea it was a window but looking outside, the whole wall was one, and I admired it very so.
Instantly, I sprawled out on the bed, my huge dress taking up more room than I had, and I turned over to the window. Peeta sat right on the floor in front of me, and for a while, we just sat there, waiting for the train to take off.
