Chapter Four

*Kyler*

I sat on my bed fidgeting with my necklace. A red, crystal, moon.

My scarf lying in the chair across the room. My black jacket hung in the closet.

Suddenly a hard knock came from upstairs. I got up from my bed and slipped the jacket on over my tank top.

I grabbed the scarf and tied it around my face. I walked up the stairs and over to my door.

I opened it tiredly expecting to see Garroth, Aphamu, or Laurence. But instead I saw something worse.

*Garroth*

I woke up to a feminine scream. That was either Travis or one of the girls in the village.

I quickly grabbed my helmet from the table. I put the rest of my armor on and grabbed my sword.

I ran out of the Guards tower and to the houses. Laurence was standing outside of Kyler's house.

"Laurence what was that scream?" I asked him
"I think it was Kyler. She's gone." He said shakily
"What?!" I shouted
"I ran here as soon as I heard the scream. I saw a dark figure standing right here before it vanished. With Kyler." He said
"We have to find her. Let's go tell Aphmau!" I said before he nodded and we ran towards the purple house.

*Kyler*

I woke up in pain. My arms had a burning sensation and I had a pounding headache.

My eyes opened and I didn't recognize my surroundings. Fire, everywhere.

I was in a room made of nether brick. My arms were chained to a wall.

I was extremely weak. The last thing I remember was seeing a shadow knight at my door.

"Did you think you could get rid of us?" A very familiar voice asked
"Where am I?!" I yelled
"Home." My adoptive mother said appearing in front of me with red eyes
"No! This isn't my home! You aren't my parents!" I screamed before she grabbed my throat.

She evily smirked and I could feel my life fading. I couldn't breathe.

My eyes got heavy.

Black.

*Laurence*

I should've gone back for her when I was old enough. I should have stayed with her.

~Flashback~

"Please watch her. She's my little sister and my parents are gone." I told the nice looking lady holding my sister
"What's her name?" She asked
"Kyler," I told her and she smiled at me
"Thank you," I said before I kissed Kyler's head and ran away.

The lady yelled for me to come back but I kept running. I couldn't stay. I'd be a danger to Kyler.

After I became guard for Meteli I should've gone back for Kyler.

I'm so stupid. She wouldn't hate me right now if I would've just stayed with her!

She wouldn't be in danger. I need to find her.

*Garroth*

"Aphmau, Laurence! Over here!" I yelled staring at the giant obsidian portal
"A nether portal." Laurence muttered
"Look," I said picking up a black scarf
"That's Kyler's!" Aphmau said
"She's in there." Laurence said pointing to the portal
"Then what are we waiting for?" I said before I walked through.

I immediately put out the fire around the other side of the portal. I made sure my sword was out.

The other two came through. Laurence looked worried.

"Over there!" Aphmau pointed and I turned my head
"A nether castle?" Laurence questioned
"I guess. Be prepared to fight," I said as I started walking towards the building.

I covered up patches of lava with stone as we walked. Aphmau removed the soul sand in case we needed to leave fast.

We got to the entrance of the castle. Two tall red and black figures ran towards us.

*Kyler*

"Her little friends are here!" My adoptive mother said angrily
"Come here rat!" My adoptive father said
"Hurry up! They got past the guards!" She spat and he shoved me under the stairs in a small room
"Make any noises and you will regret ever being born." He said slamming the door.

I already do. I already do wish I wasn't born. I grabbed the necklace around my neck and rubbed it.

I jumped and let go of it as it lit up. What the heck?!

I took it off my neck and held it in the palm of my hand. It's never done this before.

It was lighting up brighter and brighter with each second. What is happening?

*Laurence*

"You guys!" I said holding up my arm and staring at my bracelet
"Why is it lighting up?" Aphmau asked
"I don't know!" I said worriedly
"Doesn't Kyler have the other peice?" Garroth asked
"Yes," I said
"Maybe they are connected!" Aphmau said
"Maybe it'll lead us to her!" Garroth said
"It's worth a shot. The lighter it gets the closer we are, okay?" I asked
"Sounds good to me." Aphmau said and we continued walking.

We came to a big room leading in four different directions. I pointed my wrist at every direction.

"This way." I said going straight forward
"What do you think your doing?" A woman asked and we all spun around
"We didn't invite visitors," a man said
"Aphmau take this and find her." I said taking the bracelet off and throwing it her and she nodded and ran off.

"I know you." I said, my eyes wide
"Of course you know who I am. You left your sister in my custody eighteen years ago." The woman snickered
"Where is she?!" I yelled
"Kyler? Oh I don't know. She left a few weeks ago." The man smiled
"What do you mean she left?!" I yelled and I tried to run at them but Garroth grabbed me
"Well let's see. We were going through our daily routine. She did her chores, she made us lunch. She ate her scraps. Oh! Yes I remember now! She was being a bad girl so she got her punishment and then after that, she left." The woman said
"Punishment?" Garroth asked
"Oh my, are you Garroth Ro'meave?That voice sounds so familiar." The woman smirked
"It doesn't matter who I am. What matters is that we keep Kyler far, far away from you." Garroth said
"Well that's not going to happen under our watch. You see Kyler's special." The man said before they both transformed into Shadow Knights.
