Chapter Two

[18 years later]

*Laurence*

I sat in the local tavern laughing with my friends. We all sipped our drinks and continued to make jokes.

"Hey pretty Mama!" Travis hollered at the girl who had just walked in
"Oh my Irene Travis," I said face palming
"She didn't even look at you! HA!" Kenmur laughed
"Not like you guys could do any better," he snickered
"Anyone can do better than you," Dante smirked
"Really? Then try." He said.

Dante got out of his chair and walked up to the bar. He sat down next to the girl and ordered a drink.

The dark brunette girl didn't even seem to acknowledge him. He turned to her and tried to make small talk.

The girl didn't even flinch. Dante seemed to be frustrated.

"Hello?!" He shouted before he was punched in the stomach by the girl who hadn't even looked at him.
"You both don't know how it's done," Kenmur said as he stood up when Dante came back
"Watch and learn." He smirked.

He walked up to her and sat down. He ordered two drinks and pushed one over to her.

"So, um what's your name?" He asked her. No response.
"I'm Kenmur. I'm from this town and you don't look very familiar. Where are you from?" He asked her. No response.
"Are you mute or something?" He asked her before he was groaning on the ground.

The girl had punched his throat. She did not want to be messed with.

I ran over to Kenmur and helped him up. The girl got up from her seat and swiftly turned around.

I got a glimpse of her face before she left. She was wearing ripped black skinny jeans. A tight white shirt and a Black jacket.

She also had a black scarf wrapped around her face, only revealing her eyes. Her blue eyes.

"Are you okay?" I asked Kenmur
"Uh yea I'll be fine," he said as we walked back to our table,
"I'll be right back. I'm going to go find that girl," I said
"You'll just end up like Ken," Dante said
"Not to hit on her. To question her. I am a guard after all," I said before I left.

"You there! Stop." I commanded the girl and she spun around
"Who are you and why are you in Phoenix drop?" I asked her and she just stared at me
"Forgive me, I am Laurence, guard of Phoenix drop," I said
"My name doesn't matter. I'm here to speak with your lord. Lord Aphmau." She said
"I- I can take you to her," I said and she nodded
"Follow me," I said and she nodded.

*???*

I followed Laurence up the hill. I gripped the book I was holding tighter. I always got nervous around other people and I didn't know how to react.

We walked up to a Lavender purple house. Laurence knocked on the door.

A girl with blonde hair and green clothes answered the door holding a child with bright blue eyes.

"Hello Zoey! Is Aphmau here?" Laurence asked the girl
"I'm afraid not, her and Garroth are going over business plans in the treehouse," she said
"Oh, alright, thank you!" He smiled before she shut the door
"Come on, this way." He said as we walked back down the hill.

"Lady Aphmau!" Laurence called up the tree
"Laurence? I'm up here," she called back
"C'mon," he said as we climbed up the tree
"Hi Laurence!" A girl with black hair said
"Hello M'lady," he said.

The opening was huge. Armor stands, beds, food storage, and crates filled the room.

"Who's this?" She asked motioning to me
"This is- uh- well I don't know her name." Laurence said nervously scratching the back of his neck
"Oh, well I'm Aphmau, Lord of Phoenix drop," she said and I bowed before standing back up straight
"Nice to meet you Lord Aphmau," I said
"Oh and this is Garroth, my head guard," she smiled motioning to the guard in armor. His helm covering his face.
"I see, nice to meet you too." I said to him
"What brings you here to Phoenix drop?" She asked
"That, I was hoping we could speak in private for?" I asked
"Oh, um, yea. Of course." She said smiling
"Are you sure?" Garroth asked her
"Yes I'm sure. I will be fine." She assured him before him and Laurence went down the ladder.

I opened my book and showed her the page. She examined it.

"My name is Kyler. I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself before. I- I'm just not very good with people." I said
"Nice to meet you Kyler," she smiled handing my book back
"The page I just showed you is a map. I used to live where the red is marked. My family, me, my mom, and my dad, were forced to move but they fell ill along our journey, and-" I choked on my words
"It's okay you don't have to say it," she said grabbing my shoulder
"Anyways. Before they- passed. They told me something. I was never their child. A young boy had brought me to them when I was a baby." I said
"So you want to find your real parents?" She asked
"No. Those parents obviously didn't want me in their lives. I just want to find the boy. The boy who left me with them. My parents said that he was a strong, smart, and brave boy for his age. He knew I needed someone old enough to care for me and then he left. I feel that if I find him then I will get some answers to my past." I said
"Alright, do you know what he looks like?" She asked me
"Dull blue eyes, like me, and light brown hair. That's all they told me before they passed." I said putting the book in my bag
"I see. Well until we find this boy, you are welcome to stay here in Phoenix drop," she smiled
"That's the other thing, I was wondering if I could, um, move in?" I asked
"Of course!" She said happily
"Thank you," I smiled
"Garroth! Laurence!" She called them up, and they got up at the speed of lighting.

I screamed as I was thrown to the floor and two swords were at my neck. A bright emerald sword and a diamond sword.

"Woah, woah, woah!" Aphmau yelled
"What do you think your doing?" I asked both of them before I swiftly kicked both of them behind their knees.

The both lost balance and face planted onto the floor. I stood up and wiped the dust off my pants.

"Why were you both just holding a sword to her neck?" Aphmau said trying not to laugh at their dumbfound faces
"We thought she was trying to hurt you!" Laurence said
"No! I wanted you to come up and meet the newest citizen of our village. Kyler!" She smiled and I folded my arms glaring at the two boys
"Well Kyler, I'm sorry for trying to murder you. Welcome to the village." Garroth said
"I'm not sorry for making you face plant. And thank you," I smirked, even though my scarf covered my face
"Boys, will you please show her to her new home?" Aphmau asked them
"Of course," Laurence said staring at me weirdly before we left.
