Chapter Twenty Seven

*Kyler*

I swung my sword at the top of the dummy. It sliced it's head off.

"Yikes, remind not to get on you bad side," Hunter chuckled
"Ha ha very funny," I rolled my eyes while smiling
"So, wonderful teacher, how do I do that?" He asked.

I was training him to be a guard. He decided to stay here in Phoenix drop with Garroth.

"I'll do it slower but you have to glue his head back on," I laughed
"Me? Why me?" He asked
"Because you want me to do it again and your the lowest ranking of guard right now," I laughed
"Oh so are you top?" He asked sticking his tongue out
"Uh- no, that's Garroth, Second is Laurence, Third is Dante, I'm fourth,
Katelyn is Fifth, and Travis isn't technically a guard but he acts like it," I said
"Oh so you're pretty low," he said
"I guess," I shrugged as he struggled with the glue
"How come you're not higher? I've seen you fight, you can take out all of those guards in less than two seconds," he said looking back at me
"Being the best fighter doesn't mean anything. It's also based on trust and loyalty." I said
"Doesn't Aphmau trust you?" He asked
"I hope so, but she trusts Laurence and Garroth a lot more than me. They've been with her since the start," I said
"Oh, I see," he nodded as he finished putting the head back on
"Now you bring your sword up like this,
And then move your feet here, and then bring down your sword at this angle, and then OFF WITH HIS HEAD," I laughed at the last part before doing it normal speed and chopping its head off again
"Woah okay," he nodded
"Trainings done for today, but before you leave glue his head on again," I chuckled climbing down the ladder.

I could hear him groan. I laughed before getting down to the bottom floor.

Aphmau, Garroth, Dante, Laurence, Travis and Katelyn were standing there talking.

"Hey guys," I smiled
"Kyler, perfect, we're going over our next journeys plan," Aphmau smiled
"Okay," I nodded
"So basically O'kahsis is being overrun by Tu'La. We need to go help the fugitives," Aphmau said
"When are we leaving?" I asked
"Kyler, you're staying here. The rest of you are coming with me." She said
"Oh." I looked down a bit
"Who's in charge of Phoenix drop?" Laurence asked
"Cadenza," she smiled
"I guess I'll go open the gates for you guys," I said as I left the tower.

"Bye, be safe," I hugged Laurence
"You too," he smiled pulling away
"See you when I get back," Dante winked as he passed me
"I don't know maybe you will maybe you won't," I laughed jokingly
"What's that supposed to mean?" He asked turning to me
"I might get turned into a magical unicorn and be gone forever, who knows?" I laughed
"Oh geez, I'll see you later," he laughed before bending down and pecking my lips
"Bye," I smiled waving as he got on his horse
"Have a safe trip Aphmau," I smiled at her
"Thanks," she smiled before they all trotted away.

I closed the gates and turned around. I can understand why she'd want me to stay in Phoenix drop but why put someone in charge who isn't even a guard?

She always leaves a guard in charge. Does she not trust me? I mean I know she's Lady Irene's descendant and I'm Lady Shadows but I'm harmless.

I walked along the streets. It was quiet without everyone else here. Almost too quiet.

"Hunter? You here?" I yelled up the guard tower
"Yup!" He called.

I smiled and climbed up to the top floor.

"What's up?" He asked
"Just bored... Wanna duel?" I smirked
"But I'll loose," he pouted
"That's the point," I laughed
"Fine," he laughed getting up and following me back down.

"Oof," Hunter grunted falling on the dock after I knocked the wind out of him
"Good job, you're getting better," I smiled helping him up
"Thanks, but I'll never be as good as the fabulous Kyler," he winked
"Psh I know," I flipped my hair making us both laugh
"Wanna go again?" He asked
"Nah, I've done enough beating today," I laughed sitting on the edge of the dock
"Oh wow I see," he said pretending to be offended.

He sat next to me and we watched the water. I felt like I could tell this boy everything.

"Hunter," I said
"Hm?" He asked looking at me
"You know how we were talking about Aphmau and her trust and stuff," I said
"Yea," he nodded
"I was just thinking... I don't think she actually does trust me. She always leaves a guard in charge when she's gone... And Cadenza's not a guard... But I am.." I said and it was silent
"Well maybe you need to show her that she can trust you," he said
"But how?! I saved this entire village from Zenix, I defeated my parents, and I turned Zane good again," I sighed
"That's a good point," he sighed
"Maybe I just shouldn't be one of her guards. I mean I don't want her to have a guard she doesn't trust, and it's not all that exciting for me either." I said
"So you're just gonna quit?" He asked
"Well, no. I came her to destroy the life of a boy who ruined mine. I didn't plan on staying. I didn't plan on that boy being my older brother. I didn't plan on falling in love. I just wanted to be a lone wolf. Never have to worry about someone else. And I dunno. Maybe I could just do that now. Start fresh, put my scarf back on and pretend like I don't have my powers. Forget the fact that I'm a descendant of Lady Shadow. But I can't. There's people here I need to be with" I sighed
"Kyler, do you want to leave?" He asked
"Y-yes," I said a tear falling down my face
"Then I have an idea," he sighed.
