Chapter Seventeen

*Laurence*

Kyler had just run off. I was pissed.

I started walking over to Dante to yell at him. Garroth quickly ran in front of me.

"Don't get involved in this," he said
"She's my sister," I said
"And it's her business, not ours," he said
"Fine," I said sharply turning away and stomping off.

*Kyler*

I trudged down to my room. I looked at the bare bedroom. Only a mirror and a bed filled it.

I opened my closet and grabbed my hood and scarf. The two things I said I would never wear to cover my face.

I put them on just like the way I used to, a natural routine. I looked exactly how I used too.

I couldn't hide in my house forever. I can't hide from Dante forever.

As I left my house it was already sun set. Aphmau was mingling with people in the plaza.

I walked faster to avoid them. I reached the guard tower and walked inside. Luckily no one was inside.

I climbed the ladder up to the top floor. My armor was on its stand.

But instead of grabbing it I walked over to the tall bookshelf in the back corner.

I grabbed a random book. I then leaned against the wall and slid down to where I was sitting.

I opened the red book and started reading.

*Garroth*

A candle was flickering on the top floor of the guards tower. I quietly climbed the ladder.

As I stood in the room I smiled at Kyler. She was spread out across the floor with a book in her hand, asleep. Other books scattered the floor.

I quietly picked all the books up and placed them back on the bookshelf. I then turned to Kyler.

I gently lifted her up bridal style. Her head leaned against my chest as she softly snored.

I climbed my way down to the second floor. Dante was asleep in his bed, Laurence was sitting in his.

I smiled at him before I placed Kyler in the empty extra bed we had. I then walked over to my bed and crawled under the covers.

*Kyler*

I walked around the village like normal making sure everything was in order. It was a quiet day.

Not much was happening. Everyone seemed to be happy.

"AHHHHH!" A scream from Aphmau's house was heard.

My head quickly shot up towards the hill before my legs started sprinting towards it. Soon Travis and Laurence were running side by side with me.

I stopped in front of the house. Was I just supposed to walk in? Was I supposed to knock?

What if she was hurt? Laurence pushed me aside and opened the doors. Oh.

"Aphmau!" I yelled
"Laurence, Travis, get Garroth and Katelyn. We need to go now." She said coming up the stairs
"Yes M'Lady," they both said before running out
"If you don't mind me asking, what's happening?" I asked
"I wish I could tell you, I honestly do. All I can say is that you and Dante need to watch over the village while we are gone. I don't know when we will be back but it shouldn't be too long." She said
"What about Levin and Malchi?" I asked
"Zoey will watch them," she said
"Okay, I'll go tell Dante. Oh and, be safe lady Aphmau." I smiled before leaving.

Me and Dante stood at the gates. They were just about to leave.

"Be safe," Laurence said as he hugged me
"I'll be fine, but same to you," I said hugging back
"I'll be back before you know it," he said pulling away and placing his hand on my shoulder
"Bye," I smiled before they all got on their horses and trotted off.

I watched them until they were out of sight. It was now mid day. I turned around and started walking back to the village.

Dante jogged up next to me. I didn't acknowledge him. He looked at me while we were walking.

"Are you okay?" He asked
"I'm fine." I replied not looking at him
"Are you sure?" He asked more concerned
"Yes," I said
"I don't believe you," he said
"Okay," I said walking a little faster
"Did I do something?" He asked and I didn't know what to say.

I just stayed quiet. I continued walking faster. He kept catching up to me. He quickly grabbed my arm and spun my around to face him.

"Whatever I did, I'm sorry. Will you please talk to me?" He asked looking straight into my eyes
"If I ask you a question will you answer it truthfully?" I asked him
"Of course," he replied
"Are you and Kawaii~Chan a thing?" I asked trying not to tear up
"What? What makes you think we are a thing?" He asked, boys are so stupid.
"Oh I don't know maybe I think you guys are together because I come back from almost having to marry Zane and the first thing I see is you and her kissing." I said and he looked confused
"Wait! Oh! You saw that?!" He asked
"Yes." I said as my eyes got teary
"I swear to Irene that it looked a lot worse than it actually was! I can explain!" He said
"Can you?" I asked
"Yes! I went to Kawaii~Chan for advice.... because- I felt like you didn't like me, and I told her what happened on the beach," he said scratching the back of his neck awkwardly
"What made you think I didn't like you?" I asked
"I don't know, I just felt like I wasn't good enough. Ecspecially next to Garroth and Travis." He said
"Garroth and Travis? Are you serious?" I asked
"Well yea! You and Garroth seem to have a really strong bond and Travis is a huge flirt..." He said looking down
"That still doesn't explain why you kissed her." I said folding my arms
"I didn't know people could see us and part of the reason I thought you didn't like me was the kiss we had on the beach... I don't know, I thought I was a bad kisser... And I  didn't wanna ask you because it would be awkward!" He said
"So you kissed Kawaii~Chan?" I asked
"Yes- no! I only kissed her so that she could tell me if I was a good kisser or not!" He said
"Why didn't you just ask me?" I asked
"Because you are the first girl I've ever really really liked! I didn't wanna seem desperate!" He said
"You really really like me?" I asked
"I really really like you," he nodded as his cheeks got a light shade of pink
"You don't like Kawaii~Chan?" I asked
"Only as a friend," he said
"I really like you too," I slightly giggled at myself for sounding like a child telling their crush that they love them.

He started laughing at me. I joined him. We both calmed down and he looked me straight in the eyes.

"Do you, um, wanna go on a date later tonight?" He asked
"I'd love too," I smiled.
