cold thoughts

anika had just eaten the dinner her mother had made. the food made her stomach feel slightly umcomfortable. she watched the clock in her room intensively, waiting for ten to strike. when it did she quietly placed a jacket over her pokemon shirt and zipped completely, hoping the cold air outside wouldn't slip through and chill her brown skin. an extra key hung from the key hook and she happily took it and placed it into her pocket.

anika took the stairs to the roof, her eyes anxiously looked around, hoping to see the boy she knew as angus. "i see that you found my note." a voice hums against the air brushing the earth, "hi angus."

after minutes of quietness, they sat down on a long cold block on concrete, her chilled fingers desperately tried to hide into the sleeves of her jacket, angus seemed unfazed by the air biting his face so harshly that it turned bright red with patches of pale white. "aren't you cold, angus?"

"not really, i love the cold weather." she hums, looking out towards the night sky. "it's still cloudy outside, y'know from earlier," anika disliked awkward silences, she'd say anything just to make the awkwardness go away. "so, angus, why'd you want to meet out here?" he shrugs, honestly he didn't know why.

"i don't know."

"oh," anika was a bit nervous of one of her parents waking up and noticing her disappearance into the night, she knew she would get in trouble, especially by her mother, her mother was very into disciplining. anika's mother was a nurse at the local hospital and usually worked odd hours, which resulted in her rarely seeing her.

"what's wrong?" he asks, looking over at her, noticing the small frown upon her lips. "um nothing. just thinking,"

"about what?"

angus noticed her shiver, "come closer to me, i'll keep you warm." the boy wrapped his arm around anika's shoulders. "just thinking about life," anika sighs heavily, secretly taking in his scent. she felt slightly awkward being in this boys arms. "what about life?" he mumbles, looking up at the stars in the sky, watching them twinkle and shine.

"sometimes i wonder why i'm here, like what's my purpose, y'know." angus nods, "i wonder that same question about myself sometimes, i think it's an unhealthy habit of mine." anika looks up at the stars as well, stars had always been her favorite, she loved the way some were big and bright and others were dull and small. "how'd you know my name angus?"

"we have classes together, anika. i hear your name all the time."

"did you mean what you said in your note?" his eyebrows slightly went inwards, "about your glasses being cute?"

"yeah,"

"yeah. they add character."

anika stayed silent, as she listened to him breathing. "do those girls tease you a lot?"

"yeah."

"don't listen to them, they are just insecure about themselves and they try to make others feel bad about themselves to feel slightly superior. it's stupid, and you're beautiful." anika smiles.

"th-thanks angus."

"no problem, anika. you probably should go, i'd hate to get you in trouble, i just wanted to talk."

"i'll see you in the morning, at the bus stop. good night, angus." she stands up, instanting missing the warmness of angus, "good night, sweet dreams."
