angus's face was bright red due to the anger toxicating his blood, the boy's legs paced himself back and forth underneath the night sky, anika watched in confusion, every time she'd try to speak he'd mumble something angrily and continue to pace hard against the concrete type roof, if he stomped any harder he'd probably fall through it. anika frowned, she wanted to grab angus and hold his hand, hoping that would calm the lad's anxious body that filled with anger.
"angus, what's wrong?"
"he hit me, i can't believe he fucking hit me." anika looked down at his clenched fists and look at the vein pulsing through his neck, any second he could explode sending hot stream into the air. "who?" her voice compared to his, sounded mouse-like. angus finally sat down beside anika on the cold concrete,
"my dad, don't tell anyone though. kay?" she nods with panic dancing around behind her pupils, "i won't."the next morning, angus sat alone on the bus, he was in a grounchy mood and didn't want to take it out on anika, his blood was still boiling from the previous night. around midnight he let the rooftop and went back to his apartment building, the look in his dad's eyes made his soul weaken, angus's dad was siting on the crouch, deep in his sorrows, waiting for angus to come home, so he could apologize for his outrageous, reckless behavior.
angus didn't look him in the eyes as he apologized, he didn't look as his father's eyes filled with regretful tears, he didn't look when his father tried to hug him, he just gently pushed him away. in angus's head his father crossed the limit, broken the true feeling of trust, had completely shocked angus. that night resulted in angus only sleeping two hours.even if he was anger, or mad at the world, he still managed to find a mild happiness within anika, who was wearing a strange sweater that reminded him of a quilt, her pants were flared and her shoes had a small hole at the top, the overly large glasses she wore hung low against the ball of her nose. magically, she was beautiful.
"i'm sorry i didn't sit with you." he mumbled, walking beside her once they had completely gotten off the bus, "it's fine, h-how'd everything go last night when you got home?" he shrugs and mumbles a quick fine. anika walked ahead of him, angus noticed how even if she didn't try, people always seemed to notice her. before they could reach her locker, someone bumped into her, causing one of her many books to hit the ground, "watch it." angus mumbled angrily as he leaned over to pick up the book, which he happily held as anika went to her locker.
angus glanced at the cover of the book and quickly skimmed the back, while anika wasn't looking he reached into his pocket and pulled out a folded note and placed it between pages 40 and 41. "i'll see you later anika," angus hands her the book and whispers, there is something inside for you.
and he leaves. anika waited until mostly everyone exited the hallway, so she sit onto the cold floor and search her book for his letter. anika smiles widely once seeing a big heart drawn on the front, her heart secretly fluttered as she opened it.
"it's four in the morning and i can't stop thinking about you. it's weird considering you probably never think of me. um, i can't sleep. i am still angry about my dad, he's an idiot sometimes, well all the time but enough about my dad. tomorrow at school, remember you are a beautiful girl with a lot of unique character, such as your intelligence, smile, the way you curl your lips when you read. i sound really mushy, but i can't sleep and my mind is all over the place anika. anika, anika, anika, your name is so pretty. find me during lunch, find me i have something for you.
love, angus"
anika smiled, the loud bell rattled her insides into reality. the girl folded the letter and placed it into her pocket. happiness and butterflies flowed through her body making her feel like she was invincible.
