angus stayed up late taking care of his lookalike siblings while his mother's mind felt overwhelmed and eventually it exploded resulting in her throwing pillows around her already ruined room plus loud wailing that caused the young kids to feel sad once again. once things calmed down and the atmosphere wasn't so gloomy and awkward he took out his notebook and ink pen and began to think of what to write to anika, lately writing to her was his aesthetic relief, it released a feeling in his brain that satisfied him and made his stomach flutter.
"i was right anika. my parents are separating, when i got home the apartment was completely ruined. maybe it's for the best that they are separating, maybe we can all try and be happy now. anika, can we meet at the roof tonight? i feel like i need a hug or a good venting session. fuck, i'm so stressed anika. i feel like my life is slowly falling apart in more ways than one. right now, you are my only good thing anika.
love, angus the stressed."
that night was beautiful, the stars shined brighter than the neon lights from the nearby stores. anika's bright blue sweater slightly soothed his eyes as he walked closer to her, it's as if she could sense his appearance and she stood up with bright smile that could cure any sad feelings, yet it didn't for angus. "what's wrong? are you okay?" without warning, his arms wrapped around her tightly and his head softly laid on top of her shoulder, anika was a bit surprised that angus was hugging her, his warmth almost made her melt.
"my parents got into a heated fight earlier." he mumbled near anika's ear, making goosebumps rush to the surface, "they are separating." anika embraced angus tighter, she could almost feel the feeling of his shoulder bone, the smell of the crew neck he was wearing smelt like cologne and shampoo. angus truly didn't want to let go, but they couldn't hug all night long so he released her slowly, regretting it every millisecond.
they sat down on the usual cold block of concrete, angus pulled a cigarette from his pocket, "do you mind?" he mumbles softly, she shook her head even though she didn't like the idea of him drying out his young lungs with toxic smoke but she couldn't control him. the smoke surrounded them both, the soft color of grey and almost white circled around them and into the night air and sky. angus sniffled his nose, the cold air was causing moisture.
"it's like i knew it would happen but i wasn't prepared for it." that night angus laid his head on anika's shoulder as she comforted him, played in his hair or softly stroked his cold hand.
the morning sun shined bright against the covered window in her living room, both her parents were gone to work. a note from her rushed father sat upon the faux marble counters, she grasped it and placed it near her backpack making a mental note to read it later, her mind wasnt in the mind for reading today. anika's eyes weren't satisfied by the overbearing yellow, blinding light coming from outside shining against her glasses. the girl felt lazy, tired and almost unwilling to get ready for school, maybe her brain had finally had enough of her teachers useless knowledge or the classmates loud snickers when she entered the classroom. a knock at her door made her eyebrows knit together, no one ever came over unless it was a family member that needed some money or a neighbor complaining about something idiotic and non-existent.
"who is it?"
"angus,"
anika quickly opened the door, revealing angus who was wearing black tight jeans, dark grey hoodie and matching beanie covering a hidden surprise underneath. "good morning anika." angus politely invites himself in, his eyes roamed around the living area and kitchen, the apartment screamed perfect family, perfect life. it screamed so loud it almost made angus physically cringe.
anika couldn't stop looking at angus's beanie, a sprout of color peeking from under it, "you dyed your hair, didn't you?"
"yep." angus quickly removes the hat, showing off the bright dark greenish blue new color on the front half of his head. "being a bit rebellious, eh?" he chuckles, "i suppose."
angus didn't feel like attending school either, so when anika got ready for school he walked her to the bus, and after school he waited for her in the usual seat on the bus. on the ride home, anika scolded him for missing school and most importantly leaving her alone to witness idiotic people saying stereotypical things to her, angus apologized to anika by kissing her cheek and grasping her hand.
