angus held a stick between his fingers, a stick that could easily decide if he lived another fifty years or less, ten. the deadly smoke burned from the cigarette and formed a toxic cloud around him as his lungs exhaled and inhaled. angus felt stressed, the school work was piling up and the end of the year was coming quickly. once the off yellow-brown and odd white colored cigarette got to a short point, he throw it to the ground and mushed the tip of his white converse against it, mixing it into the earth underneath him.
the boy wondered what anika was doing at this moment, was she drowning him feelings with blue ink and crumpled paper or was she reading emotional lines of literature to make the boredom at ease. he sighed, unable to contain his anxious thoughts, angus could go back to class, or stay outside in the cold and smoke another cigarette, his choice was obvious. as he took out another cigarette, he also grabbed a piece of paper from back pocket and a blue ink filled pen. his mind immediately thought of anika, beautiful, blissful anika. oh how much his heart filled with joy when he thought of anika. the girl with sweet brown skin, lovely deep brown eyes and large glasses that framed very face quite nicely, the frames sat on the top of her adorable chubby cheeks. angus looked down at the piece of paper, pen and lighter in his hands.
the boy closed his eyes as the smoke filled his lungs then he exhaled deeply, sadly missing the toxic smoke that flowed through his lungs, discoloring them severely with each inhale.
“anika, i always wonder, what do you do with the letters that i write you? do you trash them, keep them in one of your dressers, safe from harm, or do you keep them in your purse? you seemed a little sad earlier in the hallway. i hate when you frown because you deserve to smile. because your smile is beautiful and gives me life.
love, angus.”anika sighed harshly as the book in her hands lost her interest, her fingertips with chipped nail polish were placed between her teeth anxiously, biting every few seconds. anika just so happened to look up, there was angus walking into the library full of poetic literature lovers. her lips formed a pleasant smile, a smile that managed to show actual happiness.
"hey anika, can i sit?"
"sure, angus." anika pushed her glasses higher up the base of her nose. "angus, do you smoke?" the bluntness of the question made him tilt his head slightly, "maybe. why?"
she shrugs, "you smell like cigarette smoke, so i was just wondering." anika figured angus smoked, considering the other night on the roof she noticed a pack of cigarette clinging onto the fabric of his jeans. "yeah, i do."
angus reached into his back pocket, about to hand anika his new note but the door to the library opened loudly, almost scaring the two half to death. from the look on anika's face, he could tell that the person that entered ruined her happiness. carson collins. "oh look, it's the punk and his four eyed girlfriend."
angus rolled his eyes and anika groaned quietly, carson was someone who teased anika often because of her clothes and glasses, surprisingly she had learned to ignore his presence and his rotten mouth. the air in the room immediately got tense when carson took a seat next to anika, which resulted in her frowning and shifting uncomfortably to the other side of the table, further away from him. carson also enjoyed teasing her with her sacred journal, which anika quickly hid inside her bag.
"could you fuck off? me and anika were in the middle of a conversation." angus disliked this guy because of all the times he had seen him picking on anika, truthfully he wanted to punch the guy, in the face, right here, right now, but he didn't. anika began scribbling on a piece of paper, angus watched casually as his foot anxiously shook underneath the table.
"dude, could you leave?"
"only if you ask nicely." carson replied with a smooth smirk on his face, looking in angus's direction.after a few seconds, anika was the first to stand up, collecting her things peacefully and she tapped angus's shoulder signaling him to follow her, which he did.
"here. lunch is almost over. i'll see you on the bus and remember to smile." angus handed her the note with a gentle peck of her cheek and hurried off down the hallway.
and anika couldn't stop smiling.
chapter wasn't as great as i hoped it would be.
