that night angus slept throughout all the chaos happening in his living room, he hoped his disturbed siblings did too. the boy had a gentle smile glued to his face all night long and peaceful dreams replayed behind the darkness of his eyelids, he was happy, content. sadly he awoke when he heard a loud slam and the words, "i hate you" echoed through the smaller, preoccupied apartment. his immediate response was to sigh heavily and groan.

mornings were always better in his opinion, everyone was quiet and never really spoke a word, that was the tradition at the lee household. "good morning." angus mumbled softly as he ruffled his fingers through the disgusting mess of his youngest sisters hair. "morning son, i made an extra waffle for you," shockingly his mother was smiling, her smile seemed pure and not forced like it usually was. "oh, uh thanks mom." angus wasn't the only one that was surprised at his mother's happy behavior, sadly he hadn't seen her actually happy in a long time, probably a few years. nevertheless angus sat in front of the waffles and took a big bite with his fork.

the hallway was empty of loud children and his giggling mother so he walked down the hall to knock on anika's door.

when the door opened, there she stood. fluffy yet textured hair in a perfectly messy afro, velvet black choker necklace, an awkwardly distressed top and pants that looked equally distressed but interesting. "good morning angus, come in, i'm brewing a fresh pot of coffee." she looked tired and happy, and that made angus even happier. when he walked inside of her apartment all he could smell was coffee, possibly burnt coffee. "uh are you sure you aren't burning a pot of coffee?" she rolls her eyes with a cute smirk on her face, her face facing the coffee maker but angus could still see it. "it's not burnt, it's just extra strong."

"right, whatever you say love."

he wanted to bring up last night, ask about it, figure out what exactly that kiss meant, and maybe even do it again. "anika?"

"yeah angus?"

her eyes always made him tingle and a wave of nervousness would flow through his body, "can i ask you a question?"

"sure,"

"can i kiss you again?"

anika softly cleared her throat and completely turned to look at angus, last night was different and refreshing almost. that was her first kiss, magically, it was with someone special. she nods her head to answe angus's question, a huge smile forms on his face as he moves closer to her, places his soft hands on the outer part of her cheeks and gently presses his lips against hers, the pink softness of her lips were intoxicating. angus may have kissed a few girls in his young lifetime, but he could definitely say that this kiss was special, it felt special and different, in the best way.

"how about we got out for coffee, unless you want to drink extra dark burnt coffee. my treat." he chuckles, making her giggle loudly. "i'll grab my coat."

his mother was at work, his siblings were at school, and he, he was spending all first period with a special girl as they drunk coffee until their bellies were full of it.

when they left the coffee shop, his hand grasped hers as they swung back and forth. their eyes admiring the snow flakes slowly dancing to the ground. angus carefully leaned over and pecked her cheek.

"drinking coffee with you will always be my favorite thing to do,"
