It had been about two weeks since I moved to the academy. Our lives here haven't been easy, it has been hard being all days of all the weeks trapped without any contact with the outside world. Fortunately, they didn't take away our phones or electronics, so we could still communicate at least with our families. My parents and Jaelyn came over the weekend on Sunday for only an hour, the one that was supposed to be for visiting. Only during this hour, the portals were open. Students and also teachers couldn't go out, and even if they tried the magic wouldn't let them. It's not like there's an actual door to get out and go home, there are only portals.
To add more, we all had to wear the same shirt, share our rooms, and have curfew. Obviously, the dorms were separated, boys and girls were segregated and none could go and visit the other. Our dorm building had four floors, one for each grade, with seniors at the very top. We all had to be in our rooms by nine, no later than that was acceptable, unless you wanted to be punished. Rumors said that punishment would be cleaning the bathrooms, washing clothes, or doing any kind of community free service. Without magic to help you out. Thankfully, Kennedy with her influence as a Puternic made it happen for us to be roommates. Our room consisted of two beds, an individual size (my bed,) and a queen size bed (Kennedy's bed.) There was a small armchair on one side of the room and in one corner  a small desk with a chair to do homework. Luckily, we had our own bathroom in our room, and a closet. The walls of our room were blank, just white way too white . Our bed covers were a light brown, just like our towels. We washed our clothes in the washing machine room all the way downstairs, it was in the basement, there were several washing machines and dryers you could use freely.

I was lying face down on my bed, doing some science homework when Kennedy talked.

"I feel like we really need to make this place more...more ours, more alive. We have permission to do with our dorms whatever we want, meanwhile we turn it back like they gave it to us," she said enthusiastically.

"Oh really? And what do you suggest? That we go shopping, and buy some colorful paint," I said sarcastically. "Let's do it, let's go for it."

"Well we could go to the art room, get some paint and bring it to the room, then we can duplicate it and paint the room," she said.

"You want to go now? It doesn't sound bad for me you know," I said getting up straight in my bed.

"Don't be silly, we'll have to paint it white again anyways. I would just be good if we added some pictures or something so the walls don't look so lonely," she said.

"Everything is possible with magic," I said.

"Almost everything," she corrected. And she was right, sometimes even magic had its limits.

"We can go to the computer lab, and print some pictures out," she said. "When we get a chance obviously."

It was around six thirty, about the time we went out to the forest to our spot. Bryan, Kennedy, Miguel and I had created our own place in the forest of the academy. We had gotten some trunks, and used them to sit down and talk. This way we were away enough from the academy, and other magic users. Some others friends joined us sometimes too, also Edward and Lily. We gathered and talked, about the mysteries of the academy, and the ones left pending outside. But most of the time it was our relaxation time, we took our guitars and sang. This was something we all enjoyed, and something that distracted us all from the things going on.

Fortunately, today was one of the days we sang and played guitar. I wasn't very good at it, but Miguel was.

"Loving can hurt, loving can hurt sometimes,
But it's the only thing that I know,
When it gets hard, you know it can get hard sometimes,
It is the only thing that makes us feel alive," started Kennedy while Miguel and Bryan played the guitar.
