We were holding hands when we got out of the theater. It felt amazing. I had never been so happy before, I had never felt like this. Happy, excited, looking forward to our relationship. Unfortunately, I couldn't be this happy, so something had to happen. When we got to the parking lot, my father's car was not there. Fantastic! Now what do I do!
"We should call the police?" Suggested Edward.
"No, wait," said Miguel. "Look."
He pointed to a piece of paper dropped in the ground where our ride was supposed to be.
"What is it?" Said Bryan.
Miguel took it and read it. I think his blood pressure went down because he was super white.
"What's wrong?" I demanded.
He just passed us the not to read it. The note said: if you want to survive in this human and in the magical world, you have no choice but join us. Taking your car is just one of the insignificant things we can take away from you. And don't call the police, they'll never find us. Stupid humans are nothing against us now, if you get somebody else involved, they'll just die. Think about our offer, we will meet soon.
Something inside my stomach was twitching.
"This isn't a human affair," said Kennedy. "I can't believe we aren't even safe out here anymore. Nobody is, humans are in danger!"
"We need to get back home fast," I said nervous. "Like, we leave now."
We started our way back home. It was a lot of walking, but we didn't have another choice. Non of us could fly, so we just kept walking in the streets of Portland. It was strangely lonely, usually there's more people on the streets, but today there were very few people.
"What if this was all a joke?" Said Edward. "Some prank somebody made on us, we know several people who don't like us at the academy."
"It can be. But this was way too far," I said. "I really doubt it would be a joke."
"Who could it be then?" Said Lily.
I don't know, I thought. "Let's change subject. What do you think of the movie?" I said instead.
We started to talk and talk, say jokes and stuff, but we all knew it was a defense mechanism against how nervous we were. That note wasn't a joke. At a specific point I tried to call my father, but he didn't answer and that worried me more.
Without thinking, we got to a dead end. An enormous tall wall of bricks shadowed the street and didn't let us pass. I was pretty sure this was the right way.
"This wasn't like this before..." I said.
"It wasn't..." Said Bryan.
Kennedy was shivering, gently rubbing her elbow with her hand, and hugging herself.
"Are you cold?" I said dumbly.
"No," she said through her teeth. "It's just an intense feeling of madness. A frozen breath that gets into your bones, and it freezes you. I just can't stand it."
We all just looked at each other, and saw her shiver. Then Bryan went and hugged her, but it wasn't any use. His expression changed to a lost thoughtful one. He just looked at me, and he was afraid.
"Alison, what was your latest vision?" He said concerned.
Laughing in the street at night, people in black following them. This was a trap. I couldn't talk, it was us who were in danger in my vision.
