Luke's P.O.V
When Rick returned last night, he refused to talk about anything other than the funeral. Abraham's, Father Gabriel's, Tara's, and Rosita's bodies are being kept in a vacant house away from the other houses, as well as the unlucky Alexandrian's bodies. I asked about Ron's punishment and he avoided the question. Finally, after awhile of bugging him about it, he told us he would explain everything tomorrow. Well, it's tomorrow now.
I've started sleeping upstairs in the vacant bedroom Carl and I had our conversation in. Carl still sleeps in the same bed. Rick sleeps on the couch and Denise sleeps in her room obviously. I think Rick is scared to take Carl home because it's so close to Ron's house. He has every right to be. I am too.
"Luke, get dressed and come down here! We're about to discuss Ron's punishment!" Rick yells from downstairs.
I quickly pull my shirt and pants on and rush down. All three of them stare at me as I walk in. Everyone is already sitting around the table waiting for me.
"Sorry, I'm a late sleeper," I say as I awkwardly sit down.
"So, I told y'all the funeral would happen today, yesterday. Now, let's talk about Ron. Everyone was pretty set on either killing Ron, or exiling him. After I told them about Carl not wanting Ron to be punished, they reconsidered. As punishment, Ron has to work for awhile. He also gets ten lashed on his back. Do y'all feel that's fair?" Rick asks.
Carl is the first to answer.
"That sounds like the best punishment."
"If that's fine with Carl, it's fine with me," I answer.
"It's fine with me too," Denise adds.
"Okay, then it's settled. Ron will receive his lashes after the funeral today and begin work as soon as his back heals," Rick announces.
"I'm going over to Deanna's, I haven't left this house since you showed up with Carl," Denise says.
"I'll come with you, I need to tell Deanna what we have agreed on," Rick says walking with Denise out the door.
"We need to start planning on how we're going to get out of here unnoticed," I say.
"We leave at night, travel a little bit, then find somewhere to sleep. First thing that morning, we leave. We keep moving so the search parties won't find us. It's pretty simple," Carl explains.
"And what about supplies? We need food and weapons," I ask.
"That's the tricky part. We could always take knives from Denise's kitchen and look for guns while we travel. Food is where it gets complicated," Carl says.
"I won't go to the funeral. I'll stay behind and sneak into Olivia's house while she's at the funeral. I'll grab enough food to last us a couple of days to a week and I'll try to get into the armory too," I explain.
"Okay, that's a good plan. It would solve the food problem, but what if someone comes inside while you're in there?" Carl asks.
"I'll cross that road when I get there," I say.
__________
"Okay, the funeral starts in ten minutes. We should head that way," Carl says.
"Alright. Let's take the route that passes by Olivia's so I can branch off to her house," I tell him.
After about ten minutes of walking, Carl points to a house ahead of us.
"That's it."
I look around for a minute to make sure no one is around and run over to her house.
