Beep beep beep beep beep....

What was that horrible beeping sound? Make it stop... I groaned as I rolled over in bed, slamming my hand on the snooze button. I checked the time and to my surprise I was running late!

I jumped out of my warm bed, grabbing any piece of clothing I could find. I really didn't care what I looked like. I threw my hair up in a bun, snatched my backpack, and ran down the stairs. I looked out the window and there was no car waiting for me.

I started to panic. I looked frantically around for my dad but I only ended up finding Katie.

"What's wrong, dear?" She asked, placing her book down.

"I hate to ask you to do this for me but could you possibly take me to school?! I'm running super late,"

She smiled and nodded. "Of course,"

I thanked her. She gathered her coat and keys and we both headed to her car.

The bell rang as soon as I got in the classroom. Everybody stared at me as I rushed to my desk. I kept my head down, hoping the teacher wouldn't notice or make a huge scene just to embarrass me.

"Ms. Dennell,"  my Spanish teacher remarked.

I winced. "Present,"

"May I start my lesson now that you're here?"

I nodded and the students just snickered at me. I sunk in my desk. I don't know why he was making such a big deal. I was only a minute or two late. I was lucky that Zac wasn't in my class. I didn't want to face him after what happened.

I started taking notes but they were mostly doodles. I kept thinking about William and our roller skating date. He was a really sweet guy and I couldn't stop thinking about him. He was starting to be on my mind more than Zac was. Zac was only ever on my mind whenever I thought about Marie.

I tried to avoid all contact with Marie if that was even possible. I see her around school all the time and she would always smile at me as if we were friends. I hated the sight of her.

"I don't want your number," I heard Marie's voice pipe up. "I have a boyfriend," she said that loud enough so the entire class could hear her.

The boy who was trying to get her number just scoffed. "Who might that be?" He asked.

Marie smiled. "A girl doesn't kiss and tell," she winked.

The boy rolled his eyes and turned back around in his desk. The whole class just laughed at his failed attempt. My mind started to go into overdrive.

Marie and Zac are dating now. Awesome. Great. Just fantastic. I've completely lost him to the dark side. I haven't spoken to him since our huge argument. I guess I should've seen this coming. My feelings for him were still there but they honestly have started to go away. It hasn't been easy not talking to him like I used to. Instead, I've been talking to William. William wouldn't push his limits too far and knew I wanted to be just friends for a while. I've never had a boyfriend so the whole thought of it was scary and new to me.

The bell rang, interrupting my thoughts. I gathered my things and shoved them into my backpack. I pulled out my phone and scrolled through my contacts until I found Zac's name. I clicked on it and started contemplating on whether or not to delete his number. I stood at my locker for a while, staring at the bright screen as my finger hovered over the delete button. I heard a voice from behind me and it made me jump. I turned around to find William smiling down at me.

"My lord, you scared me," I brushed my hair back from my eyes.

William's eyebrows rose. "Doing something you're not supposed to in there?" He chuckled.

"No," I looked down at my phone and saw that Zac's name was no longer there. My heart sunk but I knew it was for the better.

"Why do you look so sad, Mer?" He placed his hands on my shoulders. "What happened?"

I don't even want to talk about it. It wasn't even important. "Nothing, I'm fine," I forced a smile.

It seemed like he didn't believe me but he just let it go. "Are you down to hang out? I want to take you somewhere,"

"Right now?"

He giggled. "No. After school. Meet me at my truck," he winked at me before heading off to his next class.
