2 days later
"Hey" Dr.Dare says walking in. She takes a seat next to me while I continue to hold onto the babies hand. "She looks stronger" she says. And she was right, she learned how to breath on her own yesterday, and her grip around my finger had gotten stronger.
"I don't know what I'm going to do" I say keeping my eyes on the baby. "How am I supposed to celebrate her birthday, when really it's the day that-" I stop myself. Tears were already threatening to fall and that last thing I wanted to do.
"No" she shakes her head. "You can't think like that, because it isn't true."
"But he-"
"The time was 1:47 when the plug was pulled Elsa, you don't have to worry about anything" she says, and to be honest, it was comforting. Even though the dates are close, and that an hour and forty-seven minutes doesn't make much difference, I'll remember that. "I mean, there is one thing you need to worry about" she says and I face her. "You can't keep calling her a her" she says and gestures towards the baby.
"A name?" I ask.
"I know you two were supposed to decide" she says and I look back at the baby in the incubator.
"I don't really have one" I say.
"Maybe, if you get a closer look" she says standing up. She opens the incubator and I remove my hand from the small hole. She slowly, and gently picked up the baby and she began to cry.
"I'm not-"
"You are. The minute you found out she lived, you've been ready" she says and hands the baby to me. She continues crying as I adjust her to a more comfortable position.
"She's so tiny" I say getting slightly emotional. I couldn't help but smile. Just 10 minutes ago, I thought that it was impossible but she made me smile in an instant. I gently bounce her up and down, careful to not mess any wires that connected her to the machines. It took a while, but she stopped crying, and that's when she slowly opened her eyes. Big, beautiful, sparkly, deep blue eyes, which made me smile even brighter.
She was barely bald, but the strands that were there were blonde. She mostly looked like me. The nose, the chubby cheeks. I wonder if a boy would look like Jack. A tear falls and I quickly wipe it off. "She's beautiful" I say.
"You can take her home, tomorrow, if you'd like. We just need a name" Dr.Dare says.
"What about, Carmen?"
"Carmen. Caaaaarmen. Cor-man. Carmen Frost, do your homework!" He says in different voices.
"If you don't like it, you could've just said so" i laugh.
"I still very much like Ella"
"Ugh, enough with Ella" I laugh.
"It's a beautiful name" he says.
"Beyoncé is a beautiful name"
"And a beautiful queen" i throw a pillow at him and laugh. "I'm kidding, you're a beautiful queen" He says.
"Don't be cheesy" I say and continue looking through the list of names. "Bella?" He shakes his head. "Elizabeth?"
