Six months had passed since the day of the audition, and neither Janette nor Aljaž had heard back from Burn The Floor. Aljaž had had very little faith in himself from the start, and not hearing back just proved to him that he shouldn't have auditioned in the first place.
Gazing out of the window of the LEON restaurant he was sitting in, he wondered about Janette. After the audition, she had rushed off without giving him any details. All he knew was that her name was Janette Manrara and she was a dancer. He had only been with her for fifteen minutes and the least, but felt as though he had known her for a lifetime. He could see her face vividly in his mind - the way her hair bounced when she giggled, every crease when she smiled, the glint in her eyes when she talked. His only hope of seeing her again was if they both got accepted to Burn The Floor. Never before had an audition meant so much to him.
Swirling the remaining coffee in his mug, he prepared for the worst. He'd probably move back to Slovenia, open a dance school and teach small children how not to become a professional ballroom dancer, after all, if he couldn't get into Burn The Floor himself, what hope was there that he could teach someone else to? They wouldn't want to learn from a failed dancer, he thought.
At that moment, as though by coincidence, a "ping" noise came from his phone. Breaking away from his thoughts, he looked down at his phone and saw on the screen 'New Email.' He blinked furiously to check that it was really there, and sure enough, the words "New Email" shone brightly.Suddenly his heartbeat picked up. He was signed in to his business email from his phone, and hadn't done any other auditions recently, this could only be an email from Burn The Floor, telling him who got in and who didn't make the cut.
Jittery with a mixture of nerves and excitement, he gulped down the last of his coffee and picked up the phone. He muttered to himself to not get his hopes up, Burn The Floor sent all the auditionees the same email with a list of the names of those who got in . Unable to stop his hands from shaking, he typed his passcode. He entered it incorrectly twice, stopped, calmed himself down, and finally entered the correct combination of numbers '2187.'
He tapped the email notification and watched it fill his screen, before beginning to read.
"Burn The Floor would like to welcome seven new dancers to our team." He stopped, swallowed and continued, "Our three new supporting dancers will be: Joanne Clifton, Faye Huddleston and Charlotte Gooch." He paused again, steadied his breathing and began to scroll down. "Our four new lead dancers will be: Kevin Clifton, Karen Hauer, Janette Manrara..." He gasped, before scrolled the page a little bit more to reveal the final name, "Aljaž" he stuttered in disbelief, "Škorjanec... Aljaž Škorjanec!" He looked up from his phone screen at the fairly normal cafe customers around him, sitting eating and drinking, and smiled to himself. He had won the job of a lifetime and so had the girl of a lifetime. Resisting the urge to yelp, he hurriedly paid and left the restaurant. Smiling fully for the first time in months, he though to himself, he had done it.
