Janette had been transferred to a new bed, this one portable. The number of machines that she had been connected to had been drastically reduced; now she was just on her painkillers through IV drips. Aljaz clutched her hand as the nurses wheeled her down the corridors, to the treatment room. Janette stared at the ceiling, at each light whizzing past her, and at Aljaz, looking down at her with his deep chocolate-y pools of eyes. She smiled up at him, and he smiled back He had promised that he would do what her could to stay with her as long as possible, and wasn't planning on breaking that anytime soon. They ground to a halt outside some green double doors, above which was a sign that read, 'WARNING, RADIOACTIVE ACTIVITY BEHIND THESE DOORS. ENTER WITH CAUTION.' She has been quite calm up until this point, for she hadn't really known what the whole procedure was about, but seeing this caused small waves of panic to start knifing away inside her. She squeezed Aljaz's hand tighter, and he crouched to get closer to her. Kissing her gently on her forehead, he whispered, "Don't worry bucka, it will all be okay. I promise you." He straightened up and the doctor was instructing him to step back in order for the bed to fit through the doors. Janette released his hand, looking up at him with a look that said 'Stay with me.' Giving her a reassuring smile, he tagged along behind them, until they were in a darkened room.

The doctor placed a mask over her head, a local anaesthetic to make the whole procedure more comfortable for her. Her eyelids began to flop and her final few sentences slurred as she nodded off. "Don't... leave.. me." She had said, just as her head relaxed. They then wheeled her into another room, smaller this time. In the centre of this room was a large machine. It appeared so huge in comparison to Janette, who was like a tiny doll laying beside it. The team of nurses transferred her to the bed of the machine, and secured her in.

Aljaz looked on from behind the glass, heart in his throat. This was it, the big moment. It all came down to this treatment whether she remembered him again or not.
The nurses and doctors exited the room, shutting the door tightly behind them. The doctor stood at a large control panel full of buttons and screens. Aljaz walked over, looking at the images on them. There were a few of Janette's brain, a few of her skull and some of the gash on her head. He heard the doctors conferring, sliding buttons and preparing the 'levels of radiation' or whatever it what that they had said. He couldn't handle watching; seeing Janette just lying there, vulnerable made tears spring into his eyes.

Furiously wiping them away, he stood near the window that allowed people to view the treatment. The little room was very dim, except for the bright lights of the machine itself. It was silent and motionless too, until the doctor pressed a large green button, causing it to spring to life.

The bed on which Janette was lying on suddenly latched onto a traintrack-like mechanism on the machine, and began to slowly enter the large midsection. At this, Aljaz turned away briskly. The clunking and whirring of the machine where bad enough, but seeing it all happen would result in a complete mental breakdown. Instead, he shut his eyes and covered his ears, waiting for it to all be over, in the hope that his Janette would be returned to him.
