Katie's POV

Fear.

That one single word can say a lot. A feeling many people may call unpleasant or natural. Maybe even dread, reverence, or dangerously unwelcoming. In my case, it was anxiety and regret.

Well, that's all I felt when I got to Axel's old apartment. How would he react? What would he say? Does he hate me now? Why did he break his promise? Does he not love me anymore?

I knew I shouldn't be moping around hoping that Axel may love me still. I already let him go once, and I can't go back to my ways. Living in a false world with lies and shame. I was scared I may lose my dignity again if I went back with him.

Did I truly love him but left him for my selfish desires? I jumped a bit when a hand on my shoulder pulled me back into consciousness. "Are you sure you're okay Katie?" Sonja asked, obviously concerned. "You've been a little off lately."

I nodded, assuring her everything was alright. They didn't need another person to worry about. Sonja and Tucker were already kind enough to come with me to do some "questioning on the heartless fool's ally."

I didn't actually tell them why I'd gone or how I found this place out in the first place. To be honest, I didn't want them to come with me either. At first I was leaving by myself with the little information Jeremiah gave me, but I was caught then the couple was still awake.

They were apparently "changing" to go to sleep, which explains why they were practically half naked - thank the gods Tucker had his pants on - when they found me. Well, that's the story they told me. I don't really believe it.

Yeah, it's pretty much 3 a.m. in the morning, and I'm expecting my ex-boyfriend to be awake in this exact location. I don't even know if he lives here anymore. I'd be lucky if he didn't. "So who are we looking for again?" Tucker questioned.

I sighed. "The Risen Assassin's leader, Axel." I told him. He lifted a brow, seeming to say something, but I cut him off.

"Jeremiah told me this. I got some information off of him. Apparently this is their leader's old apartment." I added quickly, trying not to sound awfully suspicious. Not that it did work. Tucker still seemed a little weary and questionable.

To end the awkward tension between us, Sonja spoke. "So Katie, you got your weapons?" I nodded, unsheathing me weapon. Woah, that was weird. I almost sounded like a... Never mind.

I knocked on the door, but there was no response. Dammit. I thought, though I was somewhat relieved. Maybe I should ask Jeremiah where Axel may be. But today's not the day, I suppose. "I guess we should go back to Fyre Inc." I said.

Tucker glared at me. "We went all the way here for nobody to answer?" He huffed. I shrugged. "I'm not gonna leave without some damn progress or clues. Especially when we were interrupted in a really important time."

He looked to Sonja and smiled. I thought I saw Sonja flush for a second, but she looked down. I just ignored it, even though I was somewhat suspicious. What were they doing? Eh, who knows. (Almost as naive as Jordan.)

Just then, Mr. Salt Shaker broke down the door. "Woah! Dude! You're paying for that!" I whisper-yelled at him. Not that it would make a difference. These apartments were practically abandoned. Tucker shrugged and stepped inside.

When we got in, we instantly came to what seemed to be a psycho's lair. Well, I mean, Axel was somewhat insane. There was shafted vases and glass on the broken down hardwood floor.

If we weren't careful, this place could've probably collapsed and cave us in. The ceilings seemed to sag, and water was dripping from a unsealed pipe. The furniture was torn, and there was no trace of a living thing.

Well of course, except for me and the other two. Tick... Tick.. Tick. I whirled around to see a grandfather clock behind me. It still seemed to be working after all these years. 3:46. It read.

The place seemed mysterious and eerie, making me feel overly uncomfortable. "M-maybe we should leave..." Sonja suggested, heading for the door. Tucker grabbed her arm and told her no.

As we stepped deeper into the apartment, the horrid smell became more noticeable. We stepped into the bathroom to see what seemed to be a toothbrush, which hadn't been touched for years. A pair of filthy pants and a dusty red shirt hung where shower curtains would be.

"This'll do." Tucker murmured, grabbing the toothbrush and clothes, quickly throwing them into a bag. "Now let's go. This place is just disgusting."

Axel's POV

Jeremiah and our prisoners had been gone for days now. The so said Jordan, also known as my alter ego and his teenage friend disappeared with my partner in crime. I hadn't heard much from m'lord either, which was unusual.

He would always come to us for some information or give us a mission. When we assaulted the boy and Kat- no. I'm not gonna say her name. I can't... I was hoping to grab the girl for bait, or for even my self pleasure.

But that blasted boy Jordan seemed a little too caught up on helping her. I suppose he was worth it. But we were unable to complete our mission, now that the boy is gone, and the other sky people did not accept our deal. I suppose we should go with another plan.

I sighed, thinking of her again. One day, I'll get you back. One day I'll have you in my arms again, Katherine.
