A man grabbed the two coats in the closet, handing one to his wife. "Daddy..?" The insecure boy asked, gripping onto his cuddly teddy bear. He was no older than seven.

The man crouched down, going eye level with his son. "Shawn. I want you to take care of your sister." He told the child. "Please promise me you will."

The boy nodded, utterly confused. "I will. But... Where are you going..?" Shawn questioned, rubbing his eyes. The boy's father looked back at the mother, hoping for an explanation. All she did was shake her head, turning away.

"Your mother and I... We will be leaving for a short while. We will be back... Soon." He assured. His mother watched in the background, in the verge of tears.

"You promise..?" The boy murmured. The man smiled, before embracing his child.

"Promise."

Shawn jolted up from his bed, his back stinging with the sudden movement. He was having another dream of that day. The day his father and mother left. The last day he had ever seen them. The day they left him, alone with Katie.

He was having the same dream ever since Katie disappeared. He buried his face in his hands.

Why did you guys leave me..?

"We should get going now."

Katie nodded silently in agreement, lifting her hair laying limply on her sides into a messy bun. (frickin cliché description is cliché) Ianite sat on the nearly folded bed, packing up some items for Jordan and Katie.

She stood up, handing them her small goodbye gifts to each. "Now be careful. It's getting late, and that's when most of the ominous creatures began to appear." Ianite warned. Jordan opened the golden bag Ianite had prepared, which held all sorts of weapons and gadgets.

"We'll be fine, we just have to stick together." He commented, following Katie who was beginning to walk down the spiraling staircase. Ianite trailed behind, hovering over the two who were a little too overconfident with their journey. Her long, lavender dress flowed behind her in purple and white waves.

She but her bottom lip, before asking Katie the same question once again. "Are you positive you remember the path back to the city..?" Ianite murmured, her violet eyes darkening. Katie rolled her eyes, turning to the elegant queen. Ianite sighed, a frown growing on her naturally colored lips. "Look, it's almost Halloween, and-"

"Halloween..?" Jordan cut off.

"The day of the dead!" Katie grinned, madly spinning around in place. Jordan's eyes widened in sudden interest. "Well, ya see, bud, Halloween is a festive holiday in which children dress up in all kinds of costumes! From firefighters, to pirates, to sumo wrestlers-"

"Then yet again, it is the day in which all mourn the lost souls, who have left our world. The day which we praise the dead, and give respect to them." Ianite interrupted. Katie shook her head in disapproval, a frown forming on her face. Jordan staggered back, a sight of fear crossing his face.

"Oh don't scare the guy! It's not all about the dead! Ooh! And the best part! Kids - and respectively parents and teenagers like ourselves - go knock on people's doors!" Katie began.

"Then what?" He asked.

Katie smiled, patting Jordan's back. "And that; that is when we get tons of candy!" She giggled. "I would usually eat all the kit-kats and skittles before the next day, but besides the point."
