Janie's POV: As soon as we got home I called Devan. "Hello?" He answered. "Hey guess what?" I said. "What's up?" He asked. "I'm going to the next round. I made it to Vegas." I said. "Oh my god congratulations girl!" He said. I chuckled. "Hey, I wanted to talk to you about something." He said. "Yeah?" I asked. "I was thinking. We never have had the chance to meet. You live in the area, but now that your dad pulled you out of school we can't see each other that way." He said. "What are you getting at?" I asked. "I think we should meet up." He said. "I don't know, my dad would get crazy if he found out I was meeting with a guy." I said. "C'mon Janie. I really wanna get to know you in person." He said. I let out a sigh. "Meet me at the mall in about 10 minutes." I said. "Great! See you soon!" He said. "Buh-bye." I said with a chuckle. I hung up and went downstairs. "Mom, can you run me to the mall?" I asked. "Yeah sure honey." She said. She got up, grabbed the car keys, kissed my dad, and we went out to the car. "Can I tell you something?" I asked. "Sure." She said. "Don't tell dad, but I'm meeting up with a guy friend of mine." I said. "Oooh, friend, or friend?" She asked. "Just a friend. He is cute though." I said. We chuckled. We got to the mall and I got out of the car. "Be careful. Love you." She said. "Love you too." I said before closing the door. I walked inside and looked around. I saw him sitting on a bench. He looked at me and smiled. I walked up to him. He stood up and hugged me. "It's so great to meet you." He said. "You too man." I said. We pulled away. Both of us were still smiling. "Gosh, you're really pretty." He said as he rubbed the back of his neck. I was blushing. "Don't flatter me." I said. We both chuckled. There was a pause. "Hey, congratulations on making it to Vegas girl!" Devan said. "Thanks. That was so nerve wrecking." I said. "Vegas will be worse. Just you and the judges. No audience at all." He said. "Don't remind me." I replied. We walked around the mall for about two hours just talking to each other. "Janie, look, I gotta come clean here. I honestly think you're gorgeous. And I was uh— I was really hoping that you would be my— my girlfriend." He said. My eyes widened. "Hold on, you want me as your girlfriend?" I asked. "Yes. You're perfect to me. I mean, look at you. You're not stick thin, you've got curves. You have straight brown hair, which I love on a girl. You're not afraid to wear your glasses. And those eyes. Those turquoise-blue eyes. You're everything I've ever wanted in a girl. And I can add an amazing singing voice to that now." He said. I could feel the emotion inside of me. "Wow. I–I never knew you felt that way." I said. "I'm really good at hiding things." Devan said. We both chuckled. "So what do you say?" He asked. I thought about it for a few seconds. He's willing to love me for me, he's cute, but what will my dad say? He'll freak out. I mean, every time I mention something about graduation or going for my permit in two years he freaks out because I'm growing up so fast. If I get a boyfriend, maybe he'll feel like he's losing me. Oh well. He's going to have to deal with it sooner or later. "Ok. I'll be your girlfriend." I finally said. Devan smiled at me. We both hugged each other tightly. I feel like we're meant for each other. Dad should understand. I hope he will...
