*I was too lazy to crop the pic again. Don't judge. Haha. ~Jess*
Janie's POV: Prom tonight. I'm not pumped for it like most girls. To be honest, I'm just going for the food. I got this navy blue dress with silver sparkles that are opaque at the top and fade away towards the bottom. I got my hair done at the salon today. My curls are just more poofy, that's all. I finished my makeup, and there was a knock at the door. "Yeah?" I said. "Devan's here." Mom said. "On my way." I said. I listened for her to reach the bottom of the steps. When she did, I opened the door and walked out. When I reached the top of the steps, I saw Devan, who looked handsome as always. "Whoo!" He said. I laughed. I walked down and he grabbed my hand. My mom took some pictures and we left. I danced a bit, but mostly just at at the table with Devan. I was bored to be honest. It was that point where they announce prom king and queen. I was curious as to who it would be. I heard Devan's name called for King. He walked up and put on the crown. I giggled. He looked so funny in that. They announced the nominees for Queen, and I heard my name. The fuck? They announced the winner: me. What?! I walked up and put the crown on. I made a goofy face at Devan, and he made one back. It was time for our dance. I had a sense that this was all planned out because the song they played was "Space Oddity". I tried my hardest not to cry. "You're dad will always be here for you." Devan said. I just smiled and laid my head on his chest as we danced.

*2 Weeks Later*
Janie's POV: Mom adjusted my tassel. "You look beautiful honey." She said before kissing my cheek. "Thanks." I said. I walked away and sat in my seat. Graduation today. I have been from the brink of death and back all these years. My high school years were crazy times. I was picked to give the speech for the senior class. I'm really nervous. Speaking on stage is so much more different than speaking in front of your whole school and parents. When the time came, I walked up on stage. I shook the principal's hand and took my place at the podium.
"Good afternoon students, parents, teachers, and everyone else. As I stand before you, I would like to congratulate the class of 2016. It's been some crazy years for everyone, including myself. A lot of us have dealt with so much these past four years. In the end, we all came out of the darkness, and are going forward in life."

I continued my speech. I finally got to the saddest part.

"For those of you who don't have someone you wanted to be here with you anymore, I know what your going through. Just know that you're not alone. Some of you may have lost a parent, grandparent, sibling, best friend, or just have experienced pain. I personally lost my father earlier this year. Not seeing him out there breaks my heart. But I know he's here with me spiritually. So thank you for letting me speak, and congratulations class of 2016. Thank you." I finished to a standing ovation. I wiped a tear away and walked off. It got to the point where we all lined up for our diplomas. I was towards the beginning. When they called my name, I walked up and accepted my diploma. I looked out and saw mom, crying. I could have sworn I saw dad too, or at least something that resembled him. I walked off again. I finally graduated. I've been through so much these past few years. From winning America's Got Talent to losing dad. Things have been looking up. I love what I do now. You know what they say, like father, like daughter, am I right?! I miss dad though. I wish he could have been here today. He's in a better place though. It's been crazy, but I'm still going. I love you dad. Thank you dad.
