-Jessica POV-
Cameron and Noah were in the kitchen eating when the front door opened.
Danielle walked in — and behind her was Sir Donald Johnson, still in his uniform.
Noah turned around so fast his hotdog fell straight to the floor.
"DADDY!" he screamed, trying to climb out of his high chair.
Donald didn't even hesitate. He crossed the room in three long steps and lifted Noah out of the chair.
"Hey, little man," he said, smiling wide.
Noah wrapped his arms around his neck like he was afraid to let go.
I felt my chest tighten a little at that.
"Hi, sir," I said, playfully saluting him.
Donald laughed and pulled me into a hug. "You don't have to salute me, Jess."
"Hi, Cameron," he added, giving him a high five.
"Hi, sir," Cameron said automatically.
Donald shook his head. "Everyone just call me Donald."
Noah cupped his dad's face. "Daddy, I missed you."
"I missed you too, buddy," Donald said, carrying him over to the couch and sitting down.
Danielle sat beside him, leaning into his shoulder.
They really were a beautiful family.
"Guys," Danielle said, smiling nervously, "I have an announcement."
Cameron looked up. "What?"
She stood in front of us, wringing her hands slightly.
"Donald... you remember when you came back two months ago, right?"
He smiled. "Yeah. What about it, babe?"
She inhaled.
"I'm pregnant."
For half a second, the room went completely silent.
"Oh my goodness!" I jumped up and hugged her.
"Congratulations!"
Cameron grinned and lightly rubbed her stomach.
"That's crazy. Congrats."
"Thank you," she said — but her eyes were locked on Donald.
He slowly stood up, placing Noah on the couch.
"Are you sure?" he asked carefully.
Her smile faded just a little. "Yes. I'm sure."
He stepped closer and placed his hand gently on her stomach. Then he lifted her chin with his finger so she'd look at him.
"I'm shocked," he admitted. "But I'm happy."
He kissed her softly.
The relief on her face was instant.
"So you're not mad?" she asked quietly.
"He literally just said he's happy," Cameron muttered.
I punched his arm.
"OW!"
"Stop being rude," I said, giving him a look.
He rolled his eyes. "Sorry."
On the couch, Noah looked confused.
"I'm not baby anymore?" he asked softly.
Danielle immediately knelt in front of him.
"Of course you're still my baby."
He pointed at her stomach. "What about that baby?"
She brushed her fingers through his hair. "You will always be my baby, Noah. But now you get to be a big brother. And you're going to be such a good one."
He looked unsure.
"That baby is going to need you," she continued gently.
"And Mommy and Daddy are going to love both of you. Just as much."
"You promise?" he asked.
"I promise."
He turned to Donald. "What about you, Daddy? Are you still gonna love me?"
Donald picked him up instantly. "I'm always going to love my little man."
He spun Noah around, and Noah's giggles filled the room.
"I love you, Daddy!"
Danielle crossed her arms, pretending to pout. "What about me?"
"I love you too, Mommy!"
She laughed and kissed his cheek. "Good. Now let's go home."
"Okay! Bye, Auntie Jess! Bye, Cam!"
"Bye, you guys," I said, smiling.
"Later," Cameron called from the fridge.
The door closed, and the apartment felt quieter.
I locked it and leaned against it for a second.
That kind of happiness... it does something to you.
I walked back into the kitchen.
"Sorry for punching you," I said, smirking.
Cameron grabbed a water bottle. "It's aight."
I rounded the counter. "Good. Now let's play something. I'm about to beat you."
He snorted. "You wish."
And just like that, the noise filled the apartment again.
