She hit the ground lightly, rolling forwards. With one swift movement she moved into a kneeling position, she aimed her bow, pulling the string back and looking down the length of the arrow. The bow was beautiful, it was made out of oak, and had many interesting carvings. Each arrow was also covered with the same patterns. She exhaled deeply and released the arrow. It cut cleanly through the air. There was a loud whimper and then a thud as the body of one of a castaway fell lifeless to the ground.
"Quickly jump! We don't have much time!" He leapt forward from the tree, falling to the ground way below us. He did the same James Bond rolly polly before jumping to his feet. "Red! Hurry!" I walked towards the end of the branch, where it was thinner
"Ah helllll nooooo. There is no way I'm doing-" I was cut of as the weaker part of the branch beneath me snapped. I fell violently towards the ground, hitting branches as I fell down. I landed with a thud on my stomach. My arms and legs were sprayed out. I must have looked like a dead starfish. A dead furry starfish. In a red coat. Ok, so maybe I didn't look like a starfish but whatever. I let out a long low moan.
"Red!" Hansel urged me "lets go!" I stumbled to my feet
"Yeah, I'm alright, thanks for asking." I brushed myself down. Before I headed after Hansel I took one last look back at his sister. Hansel grabbed my wrist,
"Common Red, she'll be fine. She can handle herself. We need to go. Now!" Gretal jumped into the air, pulling back yet another arrow and firing at a castaway who was halfway through lunging at her. She flicked me a smile before landing on the ground. Five castaways lunged at her simultaneously, overpowering her and knocking her to the ground.
"Gretal!" Before I could run to help her, Hansel grabbed my wrist, I tried to push him away but his grip was to tight.
She was going to die!
I turned and locked eyes with Hansel.
"She can handle herself. Trust me." It hit me like a falling piano. Staring into Hansel's stormy eyes I realised how he was going against everything he knows.
1. He is helping a wolf, who he hunts down and kills -well a pre wolf but whatever-
And 2. He is letting his sister fight for herself.
I knew in that instant Gretal would be ok. Why would Hansel risk his sisters life for a complete stranger? (who if I forgot to mention is turning into a wolf, who if I forgot to mention is what he hunts down and kills. Kills, people! Kills!) He just simply wouldn't. Unless he knows for sure his sister would be alright.
All this must have ran through my mind in less than a second, because when I snapped back to earth Hansel's eyes were still drilling into mine. I nodded stiffly. Without looking back at Gretal I ran back towards the stream.
