I spun around, finding myself face to face with Gretal. Her expression was deadly serious, her bow aimed, pointing right at Hansel's chest. The current situation briefly slipped out of my mind and a huge smiled spread over my face, along with a wave of relief. She was alive!
"Gretal." Hansel said, sounding shocked. His voice snapped me back to my life threatening situation. "You're alive." He smiled hugely, stepping towards his sister, arms wide open. Gretal didn't lower her bow or falter her expression, causing Hansel to stop mid step.
"I won't let you hurt her. Not like you hurt Toby." Her voice was cool and expressionless.
"Look at her. She's changing."
"No! She's still human."
"For now, but-"
"For now what!" Gretal shouted, stepping towards her brother "she's still human and that's final!" Her words hung in the air like a fog. "We promised her, we would help her until it was to late." Hansel frowned, lowering his arm but still clutching the knife. "I know you don't want her to be like Toby. I feel the same way. But this isn't it. This isn't how we save her. You should know that."
"We don't have any other options."
"It's not to late. We are so close now. We can make it."
"But Gretchid might-"
"I know. But we have to take that risk. It's our only choice." Hansel put the knife back in his holder and nodded once. His face firm. Gretal unarmed her bow and slung it back over her shoulder, before putting the arrow in the quiver. She turned to me, face sincere.
"I won't let you change."
