Chapter Forty-Three- The Power of Four

Apokalips

Tammy doesn't dare move. Terra is too scared to even breathe. They recognize the voice of Lex Luthor. They know what he's done to Emma, to Willow, to both of them.

Laser fire peppers the empty field, and the two girls can tell that Nightingale and Phoenix are dodging because they hear the older girls shouting. Luthor laughs, sounding insane, driven mad by the pressure from his colleagues.

"What do we do?" Terra whispers. Seconds after she asks, a yellow laser hums past, inches from her arm. Terra screams, and Tammy hugs her close.

"Why are we still here?" Tammy thinks out loud. "We've been through the tube plenty of times before, what's keeping us from going through now?"

The most obvious quality that the girls share strikes them. They all gained their superpowers from the Ever Stone.

Tammy hazards a peek over the hilltop, watching Nightingale and Phoenix bombard Luthor's robot suit, but without much effect. The cracks of the purple-and-green suit glow yellow. Its lasers are a yellow color.

Just like the Ever Stone.

"The suit!" Tammy shouts, turning to Terra. "It's powered by the stone!"

Terra looks down at her fists, glowing yellow as she gathers her powers. "The Ever Stone."

Unawares to both girls, a whirling ball of wind races across the fields towards them, from the direction of the ruins of Desaad's labs.

As this goes on, Luthor snatches Nightingale out of the air, his grip around her neck starting to choke her. Struggling for air, Nightingale's wings droop as she raises her tingling arm, trying to summon at least a spark of electricity to stop him.

"Let her go!" Phoenix's eyes flash red, aiming her fire at his face.  

Terra and Waterfall step out from behind the hill, arms extended towards Luthor, glowing with their respective powers. At the same moment, Willow's fire, Emma's electricity, Tammy's water, and Terra's earth hit the chest plate of Luthor's suit, sending him flying backwards in a whirlwind.

"I'm fine, I'm fine." Nightingale gasps for breath as Phoenix pulls her to her feet and Terra and Waterfall run over to them.

"The suit is powered by the Ever Stone. That's how we got him. We can only hurt him with all of our powers." Tammy explains.

Emma and Willow share a look.

"But wait, what about air?" Willow asks. The girls stumble as Luthor punches the ground with a giant fist, and Tammy swallows nervously. She forgot about that part.

But something whispers in Terra's ear. She can't even hear the words, but something just a breeze tickles the hairs on the back of her neck.

The dust at their feet begins to swirl in a circle around the girls, until it's almost like they're standing in the middle of a tornado.

Terra smiles, staring up at the circle or sky. "I think she's here too.

With that, the dark column of dust begins to glow. Slowly brightening into a yellow, like Terra's powers, and then a gold, like Emma's wings.

Willow chuckles, spreading her wings and allowing the updrafts to carry her. Emma copies her, and Terra carries Tammy on a platform made of dirt.

"Let's go show Luthor what he made us."
