(Erik's POV)

As Javert mocked me, I kept a straight face for the sake of my angel, but I could tell she was pained. The men eventually surrounded us and started closing in. I got Christine out and told Raoul to take care of her for a minute.

The men grabbed me and tried to get me to go with them, but I easily freed myself from their weak grasp. I punched a few of them, kicked some others, and finally, kneed the rest. Then Javert and I were face to face. He lunged forwards toward me, but when he reached me, I already had my Punjab lassoo around his neck, tightening it little by little. I gritted my teeth and growled into his ear, "Don't bother us again." With that, I released him and he fell to the ground, gasping for air.

I took my angel's hand in mine and kissed her cheek. I wrapped my arm around her waist and held her close to me as I led her to the carriage. No one said a word during the whole ride. When we got home, I bade Raoul goodnight and led Christine to our room; she still hadn't spoken.

I carried her and placed her gently on the bed, I then lay beside her and held her close to my body. "Are you okay?" I asked her softly, pressing a kiss on top of her head. She nodded slightly and cuddled closer to me. I got up and brought her a nightgown. I helped her sit up and dressed her in it, I then went to the bathroom to change into my own night clothes. Just as I had finished, I heard a faint voice from the room. "Erik?" my angel asked. I tucked her in and then got in bed myself. I wrapped my arms around her and held her close to me. "What was the it that you didn't want me to see back at the village on the street post?" she asked. I shook my head and held her even closer. "It was nothing to be worried about, mon ange," I told her, reassuringly, "I promise." She nodded her head and I instructed her to go to sleep, telling her that she needed it.

I had felt terrible for lying to her, but I knew I had to. I sang softly to her until she fell asleep, and when I was sure she wouldn't wake up, I creeped out of bed. I changed into a suit and pulled my mask on, then went over to my desk at the small office I had in the house and wrote two notes. I set the note down on her bedside table as well as a red rose. Then I left the other note in Raoul's room, on the same place as I left Christine's.

I placed my hat on my head and my cloak over my shoulders and finally crept out of the house. "Goodbye, my love," I whispered as I looked back.
