My Peace & My War

When my soul is in a rage,

You settle me with the sweetness of your presence.

When my heart is smothered in apathy,

You spark a fire that burns with your love.

When I swore I didn't need anybody,

You proved how much I needed you.

When I was caught up in the whirlwind of everybody,

You reminded me that you alone are my simple truth.

You are at once my peace and my war

Because together we fight to bring the ones you love

Into the peace of knowing you.

You are my up, you are my down,

You are the silence, you are the sound,

You are the calm, you are the wave,

You are the judge, who gave his son to save.

No, you're not a contradiction,

But the wholeness of you cannot be constricted

To one side of a nonexistent scale.

The very idea of you breaks that scale

Which couldn't hold you if it tried.

You simply ARE.

The Great "I AM."

The one who is everything and holds us all together.

And when this little heart comes in contact with you,

With the greatness of your being...

I die.

I've been transported to a place where the core of me

is bursting from the oceans of your love.

I can't contain it, can't contain it,

And yet you keep on filling.

It's like I don't exist compared to the extravagance of you.

I'm dead, and I don't even care,

Only wanting to continue to gaze on your beauty.

Yet it is from this place of death,

Caressed by your tenderest touch,

Your fiercest, most passionate love,

It is here that I discover I have become really, truly

Alive.

Your love gave me life

And my sin brought me death,

Then your love caused your death

That I might live again.
