Gaara spent the next seven and a half months spending all of his free time with me. He even helped with my physical therapy. I can now walk a mile without having to stop but they still have me use a crutch to help out on the strain. I can use my arms for day to day tasks but I can't do anything ninja related yet. The nurses say that I still have chakra and my body is completely fine and uninjured. Based off of my chakra readings though they think I may have lost my extra abilities and likely my immortality but they can't really test it without killing me again so that's not going to happen. I was able to leave the hospital the following week, with Kankuro helping me while Gaara was working. He and I are getting along fairly well and act like annoying siblings now. Gaara and I are officially together and it's wonderful. I've never been happier, though I am dying to see my friends again. Our trip is still a while away because Gaara is too worried I'll hurt myself.
I step out of the shower and dress in a pale blue sundress. Apparently dying makes you lose weight, so the clothes I had left behind here don't fit me any longer and Gaara had to buy replacement clothes for me... with one of the kunoichi's help since he's a guy and all. I trimmed the dead ends from my hair after I left the hospital and it still reaches halfway down my thighs. I pull it back into a pony tail and attach my leaf headband around my thigh like usual while a sand headband is situated in my hair. I smile at my reflection before walking out into my room. I admit it was strange seeing my new appearance with all of my scars gone and my eyes looking like a rainbow and looking like a twig, but I got over it. I have gained a few pounds back though. I pick my headphones up off the dresser and put them over my ears before using my crutches to make my way to the kitchen. Kankuro was sent out on an errand for Gaara and Gaara is working, so I have the house to myself. I turn on the music and sing along as I clean and cook lunch.
"Every time I see your smile it makes my heart beat fast.
And though it's much too soon to tell I'm hoping this will last.
'Cause I just always wanna have you right here by my side.
The future's near, but never certain.
At least stay here for just tonight.
I must have done something right to deserve you in my life.
I must have done something right along the way.
I just can't get you off my mind, and why would I even try?
Even when I close my eyes, I dream about you all the time.
I just always wanna have you right here by my side.
The future's near, but never certain.
So please stay here for just tonight.
I must have done something right to deserve you in my life.
I must have done something right along the way.
Even if the moon fell down tonight...
There'd be nothing to worry about at all because you make the whole world shine.
As long as you're here everything will be alright.
I must have done something right to deserve you in my life.
I must have done something right along the way."
I hear snickering behind me and toss my wash rag over my shoulder. The wet thud a moment later followed by a sound of disgust reaches my ears and I smirk. The rag is tossed back toward me and I reach up a hand to catch it.
"Back from your errands I see? Lunch is on the stove."
I grab a soda from the fridge and sit down at the table. I'd been standing 'too long' according to my therapist's orders.
"Don't you have anything better to do than cook and singing love songs about my brother like some fairy tale character?" Kankuro mutters as I stick my tongue out at him.
"If I were able to leave the house and do something I would have something better to do. Don't you have anything better to do than complain about my amazingness?"
"Amazingness? I don't think that's what I'm complaining about..."
"Whatever helps you sleep at night Kankuro. Can I go see Gaara?"
"You're not supposed to leave the house."
I puff my cheeks out in annoyance then beg him nonstop until he caves and agrees to help me to the office to give Gaara lunch. I cheer and hobble into the entryway to pull on my sandals. Kankuro comes in a moment later holding a bag with some of the food and a drink inside. I go back into the kitchen and come back with a couple of the cookies I'd made yesterday afternoon and put them inside as a treat. I'd noticed him eating a few of them throughout the evening.
