Chapter 4: THIRD MEET
The expected is the beginning; the unexpected is what changes our lives. ~ Grey’s Anatomy.
KAVYA’S POV:
We had reached at about 3 in the afternoon. I had come back home and caught up with Vidhi about the weekend. Time had passed and it was already 7. Finally, I had gone in to unpack my stuff when the doorbell rang.
“Kavya, it’s for you”, shouted Vidhi. Who was at the door for me on a Sunday evening? Wondering I went outside to see Ahaan standing at the door with that usual crooked smile of his. He looked especially good today. He was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. He was just leaning on the door, looking like a Greek God (with his toned abs and everything) and that’s when I realised I was drooling all over again.
I walked over to him, “What are you doing here?” I asked. He smiled, put his hand in the pocket and pulled out what seemed like two tickets.
”Heard you wanted to go for the concert tonight? I had two tickets and thought I would invite you.” I was amazed. This guy actually cared.
“You heard me talking with Aliya about the concert, didn’t you?”
“Guilty”, said he.
I smiled. “So all this is just so you could know why I hate you?” I asked him.
“You hate me?” he asked with this puppy dog face. I laughed and asked him to come in. I introduced him to Vidhi and went in to get changed.
I wore this halter black tee and blue skin tight jeans. I just wasn’t this skirt person. I loved my jeans. I brushed my hair, put on some gloss and took my jacket. I went out, said bye to Vidhi and left with Ahaan. When he looked at me, I knew he was impressed with my attire. I decided to not give it much thought, though there were butterflies in my stomach.
We were to go to the concert by his car. As we approached the car I saw him contemplating whether to open the door for me. Before he could decide I went ahead and opened it for myself. He just shrugged and got in the car. As we left, he turned on the radio. The rest of the ride was pretty silent. I guess we really didn’t know what to talk.
As we got there, I realised the atmosphere was pumped. We got inside and started having a good time. Ahaan was real fun to hang out with. We were singing along with the band most of the time. At one point he was standing right behind me.
He spoke in my ear, “You really like dancing, don’t you?”
“I do. I kind of sense this feeling of freedom when I’m dancing.”
He just smiled as if he understood and we kept swaying to the beat. About 2 hours after we arrived, we decided to leave. We both had long days to look forward to.
As we sat in the car I looked at him gratefully and said, “Thank you for taking me. How did you know I really wanted to go?”
“Well, when you asked Aliya to forget, the look on your face was of complete disappointment. And as I didn’t have anything to do this evening I decided a concert sounds fun and well, seeing you happy kind of made me happy.”
I just smiled and looked away so that he didn’t see me blush. “Well thanks. I had planned to go for a while now and was a bit bummed when she couldn’t make it. So are you like stalking me? How did you know which apartment I live in?” I asked.
“Your watchman is an old soul. I just asked him where you stayed and he told me”, he said smiling. “And no I’m not stalking you.” “Yet”, he added, as if to himself. I acted as if I didn’t hear the last part.
The rest of the ride we discussed about the band and the fun we had had that evening.
When he dropped me, as I was leaving I turned around and said, “Thanks again for today, and I don’t HATE you.” I winked and left.
I turned one last time before I entered my building to see him give me his ever-famous crooked smile.
