EPILOGUE
I love being married. It's so great to find that one special person you want to annoy for the rest of your life. ~Rita Rudner
KAVYA PHADNIS’ POV:
5 years 1 month 16 days later:
As I was waiting for the reports in the clinic, I thought of all that had happened after Ahaan and I had been engaged. I looked at my gorgeous ring. The day we left for Mumbai, we worked out everything so I could leave with Ahaan a month later. We were married a week later in Pune. Till the day we got married I didn’t know that the day we were getting married was the day we had had our re-union last year. Ahaan had been hell bent on this date. When I had asked him later he had replied, “Babe that’s the day I fell for you. At first sight, if I may add.” I was amazed at his memory. It was 26th February that day. A whole year had passed since I had first seen him. Aliya had to cut short her honeymoon for me for which I was grateful to her.
Three weeks after the wedding, I left with Ahaan. We had gotten this little house on the outskirts of the city. It took me a couple of months to get used to life in a new country and to get a job here. But it had all worked out fine. We had a little boy now, Neil. He was like a little Ahaan. Mischievous, naughty and beautiful. I loved both of them dearly.
As I was thinking about my boys, I really wished they would have been here right now. Ahaan had always made it a point to come with me but today he couldn’t make it.
Just then I got a call from Aliya. As soon as I started talking with her, the doctor called me in to get the reports. I told her I would call her later and hung up.
Aliya and Rohan were in India. They had had twin daughters. They were 6 months older than Neil. They were perfect and pretty.
Siddharth and Sailee were the last of us to get married. It took them a year, to finally walk down the aisle. They were in India too. They just had had a son a year back. He too was one handsome fellow.
I took the reports and headed out. As I was walking out thinking about all our friends, I found a black Merc M class waiting for me outside. Out of the back window I saw Neil look at me with his eager eyes. He looked so happy and cute. I guessed that he won his match with Ahaan because his eyes were twinkling. It was a son-dad thing which Ahaan and his friends met for every weekend with their respective kids. He got down and ran to me immediately.
“Ma, we won. We won. We won.”
I chuckled and said, “Congratulations darling.”
I chatted with Neil about his match. I felt bad for not going for it and was making up with all the questions.
Ahaan was looking at me fondly from the driver’s seat. He couldn’t be with me because he had to take Neil for the match. I approached the car and sat on the backseat with Neil.
“How was the appointment?” Ahaan asked.
“Everything is normal. Nothing to worry about,” I said sounding a bit off. And that hadn’t gone unnoticed. He knew I was hiding something. But he didn’t press the matter any further in front of Neil.
Once we reached home, I gave Neil a shower. Then, I went in the kitchen to prepare dinner leaving him with his toys and saw Ahaan had already started on it. I went and started helping him. He held me by my shoulders and made me sit down.
