Chapter 8: YOU & I

Once in awhile right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairytale.

KAVYA’S P.O.V:

As I settled in the car I saw that Ahaan looked different as if he was nervous. As he started the car I just couldn’t resist the urge and I asked him, “Are you actually nervous?”

He just smiled and said,” Maybe. A bit, I guess.”

I just loved the fact that he was always straightforward with me.

I said, “I was too. But then I saw you at the door, looking like a Greek God and thought, “What would possibly go wrong?” and so I’m okay now.”

He chuckled and said, “Greek God huh? I thought you hated me?”

“Oh God. I did. So you always ask that question so that girls finally give up and say that they like you?” I asked teasingly.

Looking hurt, he asked, “So you are never answering that question? Will I have to keep asking until you finally accept?” Now he was chuckling.

I just ignored his amusement and teased him further, “Maybe. By the way, do you always always always have to answer a question with another question?” He just laughed again not answering. God this guy had answering issues.

”So where are we going?” I asked.

He just smiled and said, “Movie”.

“What no surprises?” I asked with my puppy dog face.

He chuckled and said, “No way. I am not falling for that face. You like surprises?” I just smiled and nodded.

Then he added, “I hate surprises. Throwing them and all is not my cup of tea and going in a room full of people coming out from behind possibly anything and pouncing out on you simultaneously shouting SURPRISE isn’t my idea of fun.”

He said the last part animatedly and I burst out laughing. “Never throw surprises for Ahaan. Check.” I teased him. He just smiled as I saw us rolling into a multiplex.

He parked his car and we both got out. He led the way to the elevator and we were watching this movie I had wanted to see for weeks now. I was amazed at how much he remembered of what I said.  The movie was a bad attempt at a romantic comedy and we ended up tearing down the movie together. We were laughing like crazy. I swear the authorities were going to kick us out.

He had played it safe tonight. He knew I liked it simple. After the movie was over, we went to this nearby fancy place. We had Italian. The food was real tasty. After updating each other about our respective days and generally chatting about things from here and there we left. He told me that he had always been in Pune. So the time spent during his post-graduation outside the country had really helped him. I told him all about my two years of management too.

After we reached my house, he asked me if we could go for a walk. That thought was interesting because I didn’t want the night to get over. I asked him to wait. I rushed upstairs, changed into a comfortable pair of jeans and wore my sneakers. I wasn’t really comfortable in my heels.

As I got down, Ahaan looked at me and smiled, “That’s my girl. Comfort is the key, right?”

I smiled and put my hand in his and we started walking.

We walked in silence for a couple of minutes before he stopped and turned to look at me. “You want to have some ice-cream?”

“Totally,” I replied. I just loved ice-cream. I mean, who didn’t?

We walked to a nearby ice-cream parlor. He ordered chocolate for the both of us. This was fun. We had a competition to see who would finish first. He won hands down. He had finished it even before I reached the cone.

“So what do I get for winning?” he asked coyly.

“Nothing,” I replied while eating my ice-cream.

“That’s not fair, I won,” he replied childishly.

I had to laugh. “What do you want?” I asked.

Running his fingers through his hair he said, “You give me anything you see fit.”

I smiled and kept eating my ice-cream.

When I was done we left hand in hand. He stopped suddenly and said,” I know today wasn’t anything special. I just didn’t want to do anything to ruin what we have between us. I just haven’t been with anyone who I liked so much.” Before I could help it I felt my cheeks go red.

He was so sweet. I really had enjoyed myself that day. I couldn’t think of anything to say and so I went up on my toes and kissed him on the cheek (Yes, he was taller than me). He looked at me with amusement.

“That was for winning a while back and I had a great time. I was with ‘you’ all evening. The dinner was lovely. And I think that we are never getting an entry in that multiplex.”I said.

“Well, whose fault would that be then? It was a movie you have been raving about since days, “he replied teasingly.

“Are you complaining? I thought you had fun? And isn’t there some rulebook which tells you to always compliment your date on the first date?” I asked raising my eyebrow.

“My bad.” He replied. “Your choice is impeccable, Madame. That movie was ultimate,” he said sarcastically.

“Save it,” I said walking ahead of him.

He pulled me behind and as I turned around I realised we were real close. I knew I wasn’t ready for our first kiss. I wanted to look away but his eyes had caught mine. I bit my lip with nervousness. He seemed to notice that and chuckled. He traced his finger on my left cheek. I felt my nerves tingle. And my heart was beating so fast, I knew that he could hear it loud and clear. As his finger kept tracing on my left cheek, he came this close to kissing me when he turned his neck and instead kissed me on my cheek. I closed my eyes. This guy was doing things to me that just got me unstable.

Kissing me till my ear he suddenly stopped and whispered in my ear, “Whenever you’re ready, I’m here.”

He understood. I just smiled and nodded. He caught my hand and led me back to my apartment. The whole time back his arms was around me and I snuggled into him. He kissed me again on my forehead before he left. I walked back to my room in a daze. His kisses had left me tingly. As I lay my head on the pillow my cell phone beeped. It was Ahaan.

I had an amazing time today. Dream about me.

I too had a good time. And love yourself much? We’ll see about the dreaming. I replied smiling to myself.

Who was I to argue? I knew I was surely going to dream about him that night.

The date wasn’t something you dream about usually but that’s how I always pictured a first date. Simple and sweet. Thanks to all my readers.
