Chapter 7: NOTHING CAN GO WRONG NOW
When I saw you I fell in love, and you smiled because you knew. -Hamlet
AHAAN’S P.O.V:
Since I had seen her on that February evening of the reunion, she had simply surprised me. She had hated the sight of me. Throughout the ride to Mumbai she had ignored me completely. It was as if my sight frustrated her. She just had left me with a fake smile while I watched her giving hugs to the other guys. I had to make things right. Initially I had gone out with her to the concert just out of curiosity. I had expected it to be a onetime meet.
She proved me wrong. She was this vivacious girl. She wasn’t like those other girls who would agree with you just so you would like them back. She was fun, smart, opinionated and so comfortable with herself. She was a complete tomboy. She always had either a pair of jeans or capris on. She hated flowers. She hated coffee. She hated dishonesty. She loved arguing with me and absolutely loved teasing me. Sometimes she would take me teasing her as a sport and sometimes she would just huff and give me the silent treatment. She loved dancing and did a damn good job of it. In the last 3 weeks I realised that I really had started liking her. She never tried hard. She was shy at the start but completely chirpy once you got to know her. And at times she could be absolutely blunt.
5 days had been too long to wait for this day. I had to do something special for her. Something I would do for somebody who meant a lot to me. And I had to keep it simple. That girl hated going overboard. She always kept it real. There was a lot going on in her life and she hardly ever spoke about it to anyone. As I approached her building, I realised I was nervous. I had never been like this before.
When I rang the doorbell her roommate answered the door. She came out her bedroom slowly. She was looking so beautiful. Her light brown eyes shone. Her hair was cascaded on the shoulders. She had hardly put on any make-up. She still looked beautiful. That dress really complimented her figure. Why hadn’t I noticed her before? She was a stunner. I just mouthed ‘WOW’. Her cheeks went a shade of red and she looked better than before.
As she approached, I asked,” “Ready to go, gorgeous?”
“Yup”, she replied smiling. I just remembered I had got chocolates for her. I knew she didn’t like them much but I just wanted to get her something and thought that they were a better option than flowers.
“Before I forget”, I said, “I got you chocolates since I knew you hated flowers. I thought chocolates were a better option.”
She kept them on her kitchen counter and told me, “They are perfect”. She just had this ability to make you feel good about yourself. I just smiled and we left.
I opened the door for her. As she settled inside, I took a breath and sat in the driver’s seat.
