10. Hello From The Other Side
"I won't let you go either, Mads," Anna pulls me into a hug as we walk out of class.
"You'll have to let me go, Anna. I've got Music and you've got Math now." I say and Anna laughs at my feeble attempt to crack a joke.
"Thanks for the reminder,"she says and then looks around. "By the way, where's Kay?"
"Here I am!" Kay says, running towards us and hugs me tight. "I loved what you said in there, Mads," she says, pulling apart.
"Everyone did. Didn't you see how impressed Professor Woods looked? You're surely her favourite now," Anna says and nudges me with her elbow.
"Pfft. Nothing like that," I shake my head.
All of a sudden, Kay starts fidgeting with the zip of her bag. She quickly removes her schedule and scans through it.
"Dang it! We've got just Literature and History together!"
"I don't even know who's in Music with me," I respond.
"I don't know who's in Math with me. Anyway, I should get going. The Math class room is on the first floor!" She says walking towards the staircase. "I'll catch you guys at lunch!" She waves us a goodbye and disappears down the stairs.
As Kay and I walk towards the staircase I rummage through my bag for my phone, in case Jason has sent me a message. But it's nowhere to be found.
I feel my pant pockets incase I kept the phone there.
Nothing.
"What happened, Mads?" Kay asks as she looks at my panic - stricken expression. I look through my bag again, frantically searching for my phone.
"I can't find my phone." I reply, desperately hoping I'd find it now. "I don't know where it is."
"Maybe you left it in class," she replies and I stop searching.
"Possible," I nod and take a step back, "Kay, you carry on. I'll meet you at lunch, okay?"
"Okay," Kay nods and walks off to her Sociology class.
I run down the corridor and finally reach the classroom. Just as I'm about to enter, I hear voices.
I quickly back up against the wall and peep in through the opening at the hinge of the door and take a deep breath as I see the people inside.
Tyler is holding onto Kevin's arm, trying to get him to talk to him.
"Kevin..." He says.
Kevin sighs. "I told you Tyler, I tried to wake you and Alex up but you guys continued to sleep. I was bored so I went to the café and Madison happened to be there as well."
It was true. Anna, Kay and I had gone to the café and I'd seen Kevin sitting all alone at the table. He'd told me he'd got fed up of Alex snoring, and he came to the café instead of waiting for them to wake up.
Tyler's voice drops to a whisper as he speaks."Why have you been trying to avoid me, Kevin? Do you think I don't notice it?"
