29. Said Her Name Was Georgia Rose
I honestly did not expect everyone to act so unsurprised when Kevin came out to them. Except for Alex arching an eyebrow, as a sign of mild surprise; the rest just smiled, patted him on the back and told him how much they loved and supported him.
The relief on Kevin's face was obvious. It had taken him a lot of courage to let me in on his secret, and now, sharing it with the entire group must have taken a lot of guts.
The biggest accomplishment according to me, was the fact that he had come to terms with his sexuality; and he wasn't afraid of it anymore. He hadn't told his parents yet, but with Tyler by his side - he wasn't as scared as he would have been.
I sit at the lunch table looking at the two of them as the conversation resumes to vague topics - the boys discussing the upcoming Football tournament and the girls admiring the models on the Victoria's Secret fashion show.
My mind takes me back to the particular moment that I had with Tyler, in the dorm corridor. For some reason, I still can't seem to get it out of my head.
I look at him, as he laughs at something Kevin just said and I, for the very first time, notice the crinkles that form around his eyes- the way he shuts his eyes for a moment, to regain his breath. And when he opens them, he catches me staring at him... and he smiles.
My eyes widen and I quickly look away and try to partake in the conversation which has moved on from the VS fashion show to the Sherlock Season 4 trailer.
I catch Anna looking at me with her eyebrow raised; she jerks her head towards Tyler indicating that she saw me staring at him. I shake my head and ignore the look that she gives me, as my phone starts to ring.
I fumble with it and when I see Jason's name on the caller screen, I immediately swipe it and place the phone to my ear; getting up from my seat, swifty, after excusing myself.
"We need to leave after lunch, by two thirty," he says to me and I check the time on my watch.
Ten thirty.
I murmur a quick yes and disconnect the line, returning to my table.
"So what are your plans for today?" Travis asks as he places his hands on my shoulder and I immediately lean in, closing my eyes. He smells like coffee and I take in his scent as I quickly place a peck on his cheek.
"Didn't I tell you guys? Jason and I need to be somewhere," I say as I scan their faces, hoping there'd be no questions.
But like always, Tyler frowns and asks. "Where?"
I sit up straight and recite the lie that Jason and I had planned on telling anyone who asked. "My relatives are in town and they wanted to meet us."
Kay takes a bite of her sandwich and tries to talk with her mouth full. "You're uncle? What was his name? Um, Uncle Steve right?"
I shake my head . "No, not Uncle Steve. This is another relative." I manage to reply as I take a sip of my latte.
"Uncle George?" Comes Tyler's voice and it's Khushi who spits out the water that she was drinking; which leads to total chaos as Alex gets up quickly to wipe his - now wet -jacket, and Travis tugs on my hand, jerking his head towards the door.
I excuse myself and follow him as he holds my hand and leads me to the main college building, and into his dorm room.
"What was that all about?" I ask, still eating the donut that I'd managed to steal from Susan's plate.
