42. The Death Track
I truly hated Valentine's Day.
It was the one day that made you feel terrible about being single. Your social media would be filled with lovey-dovey posts, your friends posting pictures with their partners accompanied by cheesy captions and you would envy them. To get over all this, you would then call upon your Army of single friends and try to plan something fun.
And that is exactly what Khushi, Liz, Kay and I were doing on the morning of 14th February. Susan had been asked out on a date by a senior named Jeffrey while Anna and Ron had their own plans and had been missing since morning.
I was really happy to see Anna this way - smiling all the time, cheerful and so in love. Ron managed to keep her happy and that is all that mattered. The way they looked at each other, as if nobody was around, it was just too cute. In the beginning I had been worried about Anna; worried that Ron hadn't changed his playboy ways, or he would hurt Anna's feelings in some way. But it was almost as if Ron was completely a different person now, he only had eyes for Anna.
Anna had been feeling like she wasn't spending much time with us because of her relationship, so the past week, she had stuck to us like glue and even though we had told her that we didn't feel the least bit abandoned, she had chosen to spend more time with us.
Last night we had had an all girl's night, playing monopoly, eating junk food and watching movies. And in the morning I'd woken up to a text by Anna that said Ron had surprised her and was taking her to some secret place to celebrate Valentine's Day.
So as the four of us sit in the gardens, having still not decided what fun activities we can do today, Tyler and Kevin spot us and come running.
"Kevin has a date!" Tyler announces, panting and I look at Kevin open-mouthed.
"Who's the lucky guy?" Khushi asks him excitedly and Kevin turns red.
"Remember the cute guy at the party?" Kevin asks and I remember the conversation that Tyler, Kevin and I had had in the car. Kevin had given the girl Tyler's number in exchange for the cute guy's number.
I nod my head quickly and Kevin runs his fingers through his hair. "We are meeting for lunch today."
"Oh my god!" Liz squeals as Kevin blushes even harder.
"And you've been talking to this guy for how long?" I ask suspiciously.
He fumbles as he says, "A month, maybe."
From where I'm sitting, I hit his shin and he yells as I scold him. "And you're telling us this now?"
"Hey!" He protests. "I wasn't sure if anything was going to happen and I didn't want to get my hopes up. But then I messaged him yesterday and he asked if we could meet for lunch today and I obviously said yes." He gives us a shy grin and I laugh at how cute he looks.
"Enjoy, Kevin. And I need more details on this." I tell him before he nods his head and runs off to his dorm room to get ready for his big date.
Tyler flops down next to us and all of us frown at him.
"Don't you have a date?" Kay asks him and he shrugs.
"Nobody asked me." He tells us honestly.
Khushi raises her eyebrows at him. "On the way to the gardens we heard almost three girls saying your name." She pauses and leans in, adding. "Three very hot girls."
He rolls his eyes and shrugs again. "They didn't ask me."
Right at that moment, as if to prove him wrong, a red haired girl who I remember as a Janice, comes up to us and taps his shoulder. When Tyler looks up at her, he gives her a smile waiting for her to speak and she blushes.
