Chapter 5- Performing or not?

Myles' pov
I just arrived at CDC alone today because Abi is ill. I kind of wanted to stay with her but another part of me is determined to find out what was wrong with Briar. When Jessy said 'figure it out', I feel like I have to figure it out. I hate seeing one of my closest friends sad. But I don't understand why she won't tell me.

Anyway, I walk into the large building and when I get to studio A, Alain greets me.
"Myles, I'm sorry but I read the rules for the competition wrong." Alain says.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"I mean it's a duet competition, not a trio. I still want you to compete but I have chosen you and Briar to do the duet." Alain says.
"Can't I do the duet with Abi?" I ask.
"Sorry but this is a big competition and you doing a duet with Briar will make us win. Abi just isn't as experienced as Briar." Alain says.
"Ok I'll go and tell Briar the news." I say and walk off.

I approach Briar who is stretching on the bars. It's our ballet class so she is wearing her pink ballet shoes on her feet.
"Hey Briar." I say and start stretching with her.
"Hi." She says.
"So has Alain told you the news?" I ask.
"What news?" She asks.
"I'll take that as a no then. Well it turns out the trio competition is a duet competition." I say.
"Good luck with your duet with Abi." She says.
"Actually it's us that's doing the duet." I say and she raises her eyebrows.
"Why?" She asks.
"I thought that you loved Abi so much that you won't leave her. Where is she?" She asks looking around the studio.
"She's ill and we're not attached at the hip. Alain said that she just wasn't as experienced as us." I say.
"Oh. So rehearse after dance?" She asks.
"Sure." I say.

Briar's pov
Oh my gosh! I get to do a duet with Myles! He may love Abi, but I love him so doing a duet with him is going to be awesome. But it won't be if he doesn't shut up about Abi.

A few hours later, after dance finished, it's just me and Myles left alone in the studio together.
"So." He says.
"So." I say back.
"Are you ok? I mean after yesterday's incident." He says.
"I'm fine." I say.
"If you're sure. Now let's start this duet." He says.
"Sure." I say.

Suddenly his phone beeps.

Myles' pov
It's a text from Abi.
A: My where are you baby?
M: I have to rehearse a duet with Briar.
A: What for?
M: Long story short, it was a duet competition not a trio and Alain gave me and Briar the duet.
A: Ugh. Poor you.
M: Come on Abs, she isn't bad.
A: She's awful! She punched me after class yesterday!
M: Wait what?
A: Why do you think I'm off today? I'm too scared to come to dance.
M: Aw Ab, you should've told me. I'll be at your house in about half an hour. I need to have a word with Briar first.
A: Thank you baby, love you xx
M: Love you too x

I switch my phone off and look at Briar angrily. I can't believe she would hurt Abi! What is wrong with her. Something came over me. Something angry and strong. I grab Briar by her collar on her shirt and push her up against the wall. She looks terrified. Wait what am I doing? I let go of her and she runs to grab her bag.

"Briar wait! I'm sor-" I can't say anymore because she runs out of the studio in terror.
Why did I just try to hurt one of my greatest friends? Maybe I'm too protective over Abi. However, why would Briar hurt Abi? What's up with her?
