As I sat in Miss McMoore's math class, the loud speaker rang throughout the room.
"Whitney Cambridge, please report to the principal's office immediately." I stood up and the common 'oohs' and 'ahhhh' erupted from the students all curious about what I had done. I picked up my backpack and slung it over my shoulder leaving the classroom. Once out of sight, I sprinted down the hallway towards the office. I stopped abruptly when I saw the sight before me. Two officers with guns drawn at their sides were staring observantly at me. I took a single step back when the principal rose from her large mahogany desk. I saw the officers' fingers twitch on the guns and their posture become rigid.
"Whitney," Mrs. Olben, the principal said, "please take a seat. These gentlemen and I have a few questions for you."
"Ok...." I said awkwardly dragging a chair from the corner of the room towards the desk.
"Whitney, I'm quite sure that you're aware that a young girl has gone missing."
"Yeah." I whispered tucking a lock of hair behind my ear.
"Well, I'm not sure if you know this, but she was found dead yesterday." Mrs. Olben shifted uncomfortably in her seat.
"I know. It was on the news last night." I folded my hands on my lap.
"Well, the girl was named Amnesia."
"What?" I said my voice cracking.
"Her name was Amnesia Kimberly Warrington." the principal looked down.
"What? That can't be possible. The secretary told me that she transferred yesterday. I just saw her a few days ago." I began to sweat.
"Well Whitney, she's been missing since December 4th." I immediately felt a wave of nausea pass over me. Those notes were clues. They were about Amnesia. How could she be missing? Or....dead?
"No. Thats impossible." I shook my head. I started to shake.
"Whitney listen to me, the police were doing locker searches as part of the investigation. And.... well they found this." Mrs. Olben held up my notebook. "I believe you titled it 'The Amnesia Notebook'?" She flipped through the pages. "There are all kinds of clues. All things written about Amnesia that would've been impossible for you to know. For example, the day she would be found, the murder weapon, where she was hidden......Whitney....I'm afraid that you are the only suspect in this investigation right now." Mrs. Olben placed the notebook on her desk.
"Excuse me!" I shouted jumping up.
"Miss Cambridge! Sit now!" shouted one of the officers aiming his gun at me.
"This is outrageous!" I yelled.
"Thats it! Hands in the air!" the other officer shouted. He approached me with a shiny silver pair of handcuffs. He brutally grabbed my wrists and handcuffed me.
"Whitney Cambridge, you are under arrest for the murder of Amnesia Kimberly Warrington." stated the other officer. "I am now going to read you your rights....." the man continued barking words at me. Everything seemed to go in slow motion as I was led roughly down the hallway and down a small set of steps. Mrs. Olben stood in the doorway unsure of what to do.
The bell rang and students began to pour out of classrooms. I'm sure it was quite a sight. Me, the quiet loser that no one knows being arrested and locked in chains. Eyes were glued to me and time slowed down. I looked down afraid to make eye contact with those around me. I saw flashes from cameras taking photos and videos of me being escorted towards the cop car. The door was opened and I was shoved harshly into the back seat. I looked at the students crowding around the car as it pulled away down the street.
